Classic case of bad timing by selectors.  I've ranted about this for a long time.  They don't give these guys chances when they are in great form and high confidence, but draft them in years later when their morale is low and pressure is high.  And then expect them to perform immediately.

This is the reason why a particular player should be given a long rope (Certiainly, not as much as rohit thought) once selectors think that he has potential to play intl cricket...

Today's shot was very very disappointing....

I still think he is a very fine player and should be given a long rope....he should be ahead of raina because he has earned his spot with lot of domestic performances

Brain fart shots like how KLR played early on in Tests. But KLR learnt and hopefully Manish Pandey will learn. sigh! He should have been more responsible given Kohli was batting good at other end.

Once Rahul and Dhawan are back, a decision has to be made whether Rahul will open or bat at No.5.

Dhawan has been really good in ODIs in the recent past.  If he opens with Rohit then Rahul will have replace Pandey at No.5. Jadhav will be preferred over Pandey as he can be our 6th bowler...unless Raina replaces Jadhav.

Either way....looks difficult for Pandey to retain his place in the 11.

I'd say it is difficult to find a place for Rahane in the XI.. If Dhawan comes back and Rahul plays at 5, surely Rahane can't play at 6... It will be a toss up between Pandey and Jadhav at 6, followed by Pandya, Jadeja and Ashwin

I was not discussing Rahane in that post.  His performance in the last ODI series has sealed his fate in ODIs  in the near future.  He is out as soon as  Rahul and / or Dhawan returns.

Yeah, I was only saying Rahane's fate is sealed, but Pandey and Jadhav are both still in the reckoning for the No.6 spot.. Though Jadhav has done better, I wouldn't write off Pandey just yet..

Pandey should get quite a few more chances.  But, once Dhawan and Rahul return,  that would perhaps come when someone else performs badly or is injured.
