From sleeping in Gurudwara, to becoming India's prospect - Rishab Pant

The following article is in Hindi from Danik Jagran, so I have tried to summarize in English for those who can't read Hindi. It talks about Rishab Pant and his coach Tarak Sinha.

Here are some points which the article talks about:-

 

- Tarak Sinha is the coach at Sonnet cricket club. It is the club which has produced many Indian cricketers and domestic cricketers like Raman Lamba, Shikhar Dhawan, Akash Chopra, Ashish Nehra etc.

 

-Rishab Pant came to know about Sonnet Cricket Club facility and thought of joining it.

 

-Every Saturday he would come from Roorkee to Delhi to join Sonnet club practice and would stay in Moti Bagh's Gurudwara overnight to save money. He would then eat Langar(free food for all from Gurudwara) on the Sunday morning before leaving to join Sonnet club cricket Ground again.

 

- He would continue this for few months until the coach and club decided to get him a room on rent and that is when he became a Delhi boy forever.

 

- Sinha believes that Pant had great dedication to practice. He is a good wicket keeper. Also Pant was before just a wicket keeper who could bat a bit, but now because of his dedication to practice, he has become a proper wicket keeper/batsman, in fact a really good wicket keeper/batsman.

 

- Sinha also believes that Pant was being prepared  to get ready for the test cricket and even though he has been picked for twenty20, he should try to make the most of it.

wow must have had lot of trouble just to play cricket. Its only people go through hardships usually make it big.what is purpose langar ? Is it for homeless ? or who come to pray ?

Langar is common food distribution at Gurudwaras, pretty much every day for anyone. It is for for both rich and poor. You won't see only poor people line up to eat, even rich comes and enjoys the food.

 

It's kind of like Prasad distribution in Hindu temples. But langsr includes more food items etc.

Thanks. I had it once it was really good. I went with a Sikh friend of mine to gurdwara while I was in college. I didn't know until now it is for everyone. I thought I ate food which was supposed to be for someone else.
