Australia pick 36 year old Klinger in the team

They have selected a 36 year old Michael Klinger for a 2020 series against Sri Lanka. Many might feel this is wrong but I think it is a good reward for someone consistently scoring runs in Big Bash.

If you are fit enough, then age shouldn't come into question.

I think if we have any such domestic player in Ranji who is 28 plus and scoring tons of runs, we shouldn't hesistate to pick him. We often overlook them thinking he might not be the future.

Even though it is good to try youngsters, an odd selection of a senior player who is dominating in Ranji should be selected for test matches. I am talking about players like Panchal etc who might be 28 -29 in 2 years time and if they are having a good run, then they shouldn't be overlooked.

Many have this mentality now to only pick youngsters. If there are some dominating performances, then they should be picked.

Nonsense. He is picked because of scheduling issues, not for being good enough. Don't put lipstick on the pig. Or gold plate the turd. It's still turd.

Australia have picked many youngsters recently in all the formats and he could have been easily not picked for another youngster. Yet, they picked him over few others because he deserved it.

This is Australian C XI probably. Most main XI players won't be there and he did decently well in Big Bash, so, is picked but wont make their first XI on any day.

He will surely play one of the games, might even play all.

Yes, everyone knows that these guys are picked because many are skipping the series. But the whole point is that they have kept trust in the 36 year old guy instead of picking players like Cam White who is also a top scorer for Victoria from last few seasons and even though not the youngest, he is still one of the fittest cricketers who is perfect for 2020 and missed nearly on the selection.

I meant he wont make Aussie XI. HE will surely play these game as this is not a fist XI for Australia. Cameron white has already been given a lot of chances.

Yeah and hence the point that if there is a guy doing well in the domestics, then he can be tried even if he is 30 plus.

We shouldn't ignore a good player who has been dominating in Ranji. Hopefully we won't forget the likes of Mukund who might not play the Bangladesh game and then could be forgotten again by the time next year comes.

He got picked because Langer is the coach, its a B team because anyone decent is in India and he always got the job done for Langer so why not?
Given his record it was an aberration that Klinger never got a chance to play international cricket when so many complete duds did.

For a moment there, I thought they picked him 3 years ahead of time :-).
