Most sixes and fours - a different perspective

Rayudu and Dhoni have hit 20 sixes each second highest in the tally after ABDV, Russell, and Gayle. Watson has 19.  Now you know why CSK are scoring those big runs and chasing big totals. This is probably Dhoni's best IPL sixes tally ever. Can anyone confirm this? @sscomp32 @velu@Shunya

ABDV has 23 6s, but Kohli only 11 and that tells you where they are lagging behind despite playing at Chinnaswamy, lack of six hitters in their squad has hurt them and they are always ending up with an under par score. CSK has 3 guys combined hit 59 sixes in in 8 games.  Russel did in the least number of balls, just 102 for 23 sixes, ABDV 152, Gayle 156 balls, Dhoni 169, Watson 169.

Rahul has the highest number of fours, 34, in just 157 balls with 12 sixes, while Pant and Rayudu are number 2 in 4s with 33 in 179 and 237 balls respectively. Pant also has 15 sixes to go with it.  Pant has the second highest strike rate among top 10 run scorers till now, highest among Indians, with Rahul and Dhoni looking to grab him.  ABDV the #1, even Gayle is no match till now though he isnt in top 10. Though if you lower the criteria and and include batsmen who have scored at 200 runs, Andre Russel has the best strike rate of 202.

Dhoni 169, Rayudu 156, Watson 166, is the best strike rate combination in top 6 with over 200 runs.  Gayle and Rahul is the second best.  ABDV is striking at 184 but Kohli 140 lagging behind.  So, RCB's fate has a lot to do with Kohli not scoring quick enough.

While KXIP have been very lucky that they have won so many games despite having just two batsman scoring those runs. Nair has also scored 186 runs but SR is just 127.

I think its not just about sixes and fours, overall CSK batting is clicking big time so far. Every single batsman has been scoring runs, that is a rare thing. As seen in teams like RCB and SRH only couple of batsman are scoring the runs and hence they would not be able to match better teams at top.

CSK ne tukka lagaya oldies and discarded logo pe and woh kaam kar gaya. Team culture is good thanks to captain and management which allows everyone to play freely and enjoy.

that is what I said above CSK has three batsmen scoring runs, Dhoni, Raydu, Watson..all three have over 250 runs already and with high SR rate. Sixes and fours do matter.  They are clicking means, they are hitting those 6s and 4s required to score big runs.  your cant score big without 6s and 4s on flat pitches.

But CSK's real test will be next IPL when these oldies will be even older and would they sustain this performance in coming years is the question.

That wasnt a tukka, CSK goes for experience n leaders

Even When fleming n dhoni went into audtion for pune they had many leaders in the team. A good leadership group always helps

In crunch situations experience matters ,thats why CSK has been a consistent over many yrs. In Next 2 auction ull see them going for player who are much developed and experienced by then and slowly they ll phase out oldies .

Also for an old side this is a damn good fielding side, fielding always lifts the morale of any team

yes but their wud be new player added to auction every year and few wud be discarded by their franchise ...so their wud some players. And they dnt have to make a whole new side....just keep adding a few every year.

Agree with experience part. It always counts. But when they won in 2010-2011, they had a pretty balanced or rather young side. So this season is more like self confidence and self belief that they will give more than 100% since nobody is taking these oldies seriously.

Aur bhai this is not the best fielding side, but just like batting and bowling - all together they are pretty above the average. Most importantly they dont drop catches which is so crucial.
