Who satisfies this definition in your view. The generally accepted criterion is that a "genuine all-rounder" is someone whose batting or bowling skills, considered alone, would be good enough to win him a place in the team for which he plays Imran Sobers Kallis Botham ---- for me its Botham. acc to me all three Imran, Sobers and Kallis are one and half players. Their secondary skill is only half as good as their primary skill. Sobers and Kallis would make into A-teams with their bowling alone, but finding a place in the national squad just for bowling is pushing things. Imran Khan's batting average is highly exaggerated with so many not outs. He might have been a decent defensive batsman though his match winning capabilities with the bat alone are disputable. Botham alone to me is 2Xtimes player as every other player in his team. For example look at his secondary skill, his record is as good as a middle order specialist player in Nasser Hussain. Not saying that he might have been as accomplished as Nasser technically, but the solid record tells us how capable this guy is. Botham just as a batsman is good enough to play for the national team. you completely forgot Kapildev. an 'all rounder' in the true sense is supposed to be 'batsman' & 'bowler' (2 in 1) in the team. but there is no one in the history of the game to have say played 100 tests, scored some 7500 runs @42 avg: atleast with few no: of not outs and took say 325 wkts at 29 avg: atleast . Aubrey Faulkner comes into mind, but he played too less, 25 tests in 1906-24. Kapil dev with his 28.52 runs/inns, 80.91 str: rate at 7th position is slightly better a test batsman than Botham for me.He was slightly better test bowler than Botham too.

only when i open a thread' date=' everyone wants to troll :(([/quote'] why excluded Kapil dev? has scored 5248 runs and taken 434 wkts. Kapil with an avg: & str:rate combo of 31.05 & 80.91 is a better batsman than Botham with 33.54 & 60.71 for me.i am sure i am not alone.
