WT20 - Top 6 teams so far

With all teams, except Aus and BD, having played 2 games so far, below is how they rank in my book:

1. NZ

  • Strengths: Brilliant with both strategy and its implementation
  • Weaknesses: None so far except not everyone is batting well (but it got some tough surfaces to bat on)
  • Comments: Appears to be just getting started so could improve as the tourney progresses

2. WI

  • Strengths: Power batting, looks relaxed, good variety in the bowling attack
  • Weaknesses: Could lose the plot at times
  • Comments: Probably the most dangerous team out there esp. in KOs

3. Eng

  • Strengths: Batting depth
  • Weaknesses: Bowling to some extent
  • Comments: Plays SL and AFG next so has a good chance of making it to the KOs

4. Aus

  • Strengths: Strong batting
  • Weaknesses: May have to play on pitches with turn vs Asian teams (BD, Pak and Ind) in its group
  • Comments: Had a solid first game so is likely to improve as the tourney progresses

5. Ind

  • Strengths: Kohli, home conditions
  • Weaknesses: The 5th bowling option which could be exploited by quality teams (non-Asian which it could play in KOs). The guys who share the 5th bowler's overs have not batted well either creating a neither here nor there situation in both batting and bowling. There is no leg-spinner in the squad as well. Captaincy too has been pathetic (so far only ahead of Afridi's)
  • Comments: It appears that the team may have already peaked so unless some of the others don't step up, along with if captaincy and selection does not improve, Ind could get KO by a quality team

 6. SA

  • Strengths: Batting has been brilliant
  • Weaknesses: Bowling seems to be struggling but it has played at Mumbai so far
  • Comments: Like Ind, it needs to improve to get in to the last 4

Besides the above, others teams too have a chance to make a come back as enough games are on hand so lets see if the fortunes change or the good performing teams continue to impress to secure berths for the KOs

Pak is not in the top 6 at the moment. But it has two games to change its fortunes

Well, they are ahead of us in the Group in terms of NRR. I think it is unfair.

This is not based on points table as other teams are expected to beat BD too

But both Pak and BD have a chance too if they win their remaining games :winky:

I would've SA and Pak share the 6th position.

BD could be a close 6th as well because it could be playing on pitches that offer turn .... Much like Aus, it has only played 1 game so far

Have we played Bangladesh yet? They are ahead because of minnow bashing, they are not in top 6 , it is very fair

Road ahead for Aus .... It plays Asian teams next possibly on tracks assisting spin to some extent:

Engand's next 2 matches in Delhi..not easy against spinners.

if i had to choose from the matches that has been played, my top team atm would be WI followed by NZ

WI had advantage of batting second , not sure what target they should have set if batting first...

where is Pakistan?

  • Strengths: Pace Bowling powerhouse + Boom Boom
  • Weaknesses: Lack of Spin options
  • Comments: definitely in KOs

Lala is both strength & weakness.. + Pakistan only beat a minnow so far.

Good analysis. But this is t20, anything can change anytime.

Both the groups are wide open theoretically .... Theteams that start playing well from now on have good chance of making it to the KOs
