Srinath in both formats.

Zak looks more adapt to ODIs than srinath because he played in this era...otherwise srinath would have also developed slow bouncers, yorkers, cutters etc.

Srinath did change his bowling over time. Started off as an out-and-out fast bowler without too much variation. By the 2002 NZ tour and the 2003 WC, he was a lot more complete.

The only Indian test bowlers who have given me the feeling that they will do something or other to get a wicket despite the conditions not being in their favour (among those I watched)

Srinath was more naturally gifted but Zak matured to a level much more superior than Srinath has ever been at.

Srinath played as a junior under Kapil Dev who wasn't really helpful and indifferent to his talents... I often feel had Srinath been Zak's understudy instead of Sreesanth or Munaf then he would have achieved so much as a bowler. Even as a 34 year old he was hitting 145 at WC2003.

You are quite right. Had Srinath been a Pakistani, he would have made his debut under Imran. Someone like Imran would have developed him to a level we cant think now. Srinath had everything, Genuine pace, bounce, seam and swing talent. The only thing he lacked was confidence which someone like Imran could have groomed. 

 

When it comes to Srinath, he was a consistent performer throughout. Unlike Zaheer. Zaheer had many ups and downs in his career, and finally he developed into a world class bowler and eventually became the top fast bowler in the world. Srinath did not reach that height, but whatever he did, he was consistent and for that, he is irreplaceable. 

Although Srinath was an ODI great. I think he was amongst the top 5 in the world during his playing days in terms of wickets.

Had everything except a genuine fast bowler's temperament (and adequate back-up support in bowling and fielding) - if he was playing for Oz, SA, Pak, or even 90's WI he would have done much better.
