chanakya
open with Veeru and Dravid and Laxman at number 3, Solves all the problems. All we need is something to implant into Dravid's mind that the score is 0/1 and he is batting at number 3 Link to comment
Desi Cartman
This talk of age only happens in India , why cant be concentrate on the present , world cup is not the only criteria , look at australia people debut at the age of 30 over there , half their team is above 30 , do they think about replacements all the time , no .....form is the most important criteria. I agree with you but : Ganguly has played 100s of ODIs and looks tired &unwell. Even Dravid can not compete with the youngsters when it comes to running or diving for catches. More often than not Ganguly and Dravid struggle to clear the fence (in the final overs or against pace). Aussies have quality replacements like Hussey , Clark etc who fitted straight away and are physically fit. Form should be the criteria and I guess Rainia did score few in the domestic games back home. Link to comment
Rajiv
How about Laxman as opener No, doesn't look anything like an opener Link to comment

Also check the fact that how many matches we have won last yr with ganguly and tendulkar opening , he was not hurting out team in any way , we were winning more often (much more infact) than losing. Ganguly's SR has been the same throughout his career , its not according to his age , he was always around the 73-75 mark , he gels well with tendulkar on top and sachin can play his shots freely. With any other opener what happens is they get dismissed at an early stage and sachin is in pressure and gets out eventually. Only in certain instances do the second opener strike back. So it means more losses than defeats. Take a look at how his SR was affecting the team SG's past innings 1) 98 vs WI s/r 89 (India Won) 2) 68 vs WI s/r 82 (India Won) 3) 62 vs SL s/r 79 (India Lost) Other Top Scorers -SRT(54 @ s/r 88), Dhoni(48 @s/r 70), Kartik(31 @s/r 63) India lost by 5 runs ... Who lost the match for india?? (i guess dhoni and kartik played pathetic in the end and india lost by only 5 runs) <-- What was Dhoni doing here?? 4) 48 vs SL s/r 67 (India Won a low scoring match by 5 wkts) 5) 58* vs SL s/r 78 (India won and those who saw the match must be knowing that dada slowed down in the very end coz of cramp in his leg) 6) 66 vs BD s/r 51 (India lost) Other top scorers - Yuvi (47 @s/r 81), RD(14 @50) no other batsman scored in double figure. Why India Lost?? ... coz of Sg's slow batting?? ... India did not even play complete 50 overs so how slow batting came into picture when others did not even score in double digits? 7) 89 vs Bermuda (India Won) 8) 73* vs Ireland s/r 74 (India Won) Other top scorers - GG (80* @s/r 75) 9) 42 vs SA (India won) 10) 39 vs England s/r 72 (India Won) 11) 72 vs England s/r 69 (India lost and were bowled out in 48 overs ... wots the point of talking abt s/r here?) 12) 59 vs England s/r 75 (india Won) 13) 53 vs England s/r 88 (India Won) 14) 41 vs Aus s/r 70 (India Won) .. SRT(79 @s/r 67) 15) 86 vs Aus s/r 78 (India lost) other scorers - SRT(72 @s/r 100), Uthappa(44 @s/r 157) .. dunno how india trying to win chasing a total over 300 with these 3 performances only. 16) 39 vs Pak s/r 71 (India Won) 17) 39 vs pak s/r 85 (India Won) I am not saying dont get in Raina or other young players but get them gradually , dont make them a core member of the team in such a short notice , nurture them , otherwise it will be the same old thing what happened with chappell. CC1981
The only idea worse than Laxman opening ( FFS! give him #3, shunt Dravid to #6 and KEEP IT THAT WAY FOR ATLEAST 5 TESTS!), is getting Tendulkar to open the bowling for India in the next test. Link to comment
Cricketics
No' date=' doesn't look anything like an opener[/quote'] lol rajev, then surely as whisky c.o.c.k?? i hope u get what m talkin about Link to comment
Desi Cartman
^ so who should be dropped to give the new guys a go ? Dhoni , SRT , Pathan or who else. and i dont think they dropped Ganguly for Raina . I think he made way for Gambhir Link to comment
bradman
^ so who should be dropped to give the new guys a go ? Dhoni , SRT , Pathan or who else. It should be the seniors but it should be based on rotation system , dont chuck out an inform senior completely , make the step more gradual so that players can actually learn something. Compare it with how Ishant was introduced in our team , thats the right way. Dont get so many new players in the team , at the same time , get one or 2 new players and nurture them. Link to comment
bradman
Indian selectors choose to leave out some senior players while picking the ODI team for Australia on Sunday. The news was received with a pinch of salt in Perth where the Indian team had registered a historic Test win over Australia on Saturday. While VVS Laxman understood his fate, Sourav Ganguly did express a desire to continue in the limited-overs version for a little more time when he was told about his dropping by selectors, Ranjib Biswal and V Raju. Dravid was out on a cruise with his family and so the selectors could not meet him. "With Sourav, it was basically his fielding and running between the wickets that was the problem. So, we decided to look at the youngsters," explained a senior Board official. What is not to be forgotten is that Ganguly, along with Dravid, had been on the chopping block even before the last ODI series against Pakistan. Also, Ganguly's inability to push scoring in a crucial chase thriller at Nagpur too had upset the think-tank. While Dravid was left out, Ganguly was spared the axe in November 2007 because of his experience. Now, things have changed. Of the others, left-arm spinner Kartik can consider himself unlucky. After being brought in from the cold, he was in form against Australia. He won a game against them with bat and ball, but has now been left out. Here again the captain's judgment prevailed. It was felt that the Australian pitches will be better suited to Chawla than Kartik who is always a handful on Indian turners. Plus, Chawla is touted to be a better fielder. UP's Praveen Kumar retained his spot owing to his consistent Ranji show. An under-done Munaf will have to gain some match practice before returning to top-flight cricket. Well I hope the new boys have enough skills to run fast and score more than 10 runs at a fast pace ....and have enough fielding skills to defend the score they have put on. Jai ho fielding Jai ho Running between wickets Batting ki ma ki :finger: Link to comment
fineleg
Was Gary Kirsten present at the Team Selection for ODIs meeting? Any involvement or did he go back to S.A. and will join only in India for SA series? Link to comment
coffee_rules
Why do you ask? He is not even the coach of India as of now. He is effective from March. Link to comment
fineleg
He is in a consulting role (unofficial coach) currently. And these decisions of dropping SG, RD and selecting Raina, VS, KKD are not just for Aus series. Well the selection is only for Aus ODIs, but the repercussions can be beyond that. So, it will be good if he provides his input (to the team, not to media) even if not part of decision making yet. Link to comment
Dravid
maybe trying to be the next greg Link to comment
theguyinallblue
even Robin Singh is in favour of fresh and young legs for ODIs.. infact..we are going to play so many ODIs..that we should rotate players...i think rotation would have been good..instead of dropping the seniors all together..
