There are more chances of Lanka preparing pitches which can be nest utilised by Mendis and Murli... so i am expecting Low bounce...spinner friendly pitches... only those pacers which can hit the deck hard and extract some bounce..will create some trouble for batsmen... and i am not expecting any seam movement..but swing will be there.. so Sreesanth and Ishant will be our best combo for pace..and Kumble and Okha/amit mishra for spinners...

I have seen amit mishra only in the IPL but he seems to spin the ball a lot more than chawla and also has a good googly-what do you guys think?

Amit Mishra was excellent in some IPL game when the batsmen were attacking him. He seems a more well-rounded bowler than Chawla. Chawla should not be disheartened. He should just go and play some competitive domestic cricket. Get inspired by Raina.

There seems to be question marks over the long-term career of Zak. He gets injured often, has prolonged lay-offs, comes back, plays a match or two and the whole process starts again. He is the Indian version of Flintoff.

Huge loss. Zaheer has been outstanding ever since he returned to the Indian side. Top class against SA, ENG, PAK, AUS and those performances earned him the Wisden Cricketer of the Year award. He was also instrumental in India's last win against Sri Lanka away from home at Kandy back in '01. Very tough to replace someone like him. Now the real cause for concern should be Sreesanth's form - he hasn't done anything since that South African tour. Bowled well in patches against England, but he really hasn't progressed like i thought he would. He should be a shoe-in now that Zaheer is out, but it's getting to a point where he is testing the patience of the selectors. India should stick to a 2+2 combination for this series - Sreesanth and Ishant, along with Kumble and Harbhajan. RP Singh's bowling isn't suited to Sri Lankan conditions, so there is no point in picking him. The selectors may as well pick a half-fit Zaheer ahead of him.

Gambhir, Ojha in reckoning for Lanka test series More... Gambhir, Ojha in reckoning A STAFF REPORTER Calcutta: Gautam Gambhir is likely to be rewarded for his fine form in one-day cricket when the national selectors meet in Mumbai to pick the squad for the three-Test series in Sri Lanka starting later this month. Wasim Jaffer, Virender Sehwag’s opening partner in Tests, hasn’t been in good form in the last couple of series against Australia and South Africa. In Australia, Jaffer managed 49 in three Tests and 126 in as many matches at home against the Proteas. The selectors are also likely to pick a second wicketkeeper. Dinesh Karthik seems the obvious choice, but Parthiv Patel cannot be ruled out. Sachin Tendulkar will be back along with Harbhajan Singh. Sachin was forced to take a break because of a groin injury while the off-spinner had been serving a ban because of slapping Sreesanth during the Indian Premier League. There has been no official communication to the selectors or secretary Niranjan Shah on Sachin’s fitness but it is assumed that he is available for the series. Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, V.V.S. Laxman and Yuvraj Singh pick themselves. There is a cloud over Zaheer Khan’s fitness and Dilip Vengsarkar has admitted to being in the dark. The pacer has been out with a heel injury since the first Test in Australia last year. It is also learnt that Sreesanth has been advised another three weeks rest. Irfan Pathan has also failed to enthuse the selectors with his performance in Pakistan. Munaf Patel is set for a comeback in the circumstances. Ishant Sharma, VRV Singh and Rudra Pratap Singh are likely to form the quartet. Pragyan Ojha is a frontrunner for the third spinner’s slot ahead of Murali Kartik. . Young Gujarat offie Mohnish Parmar has emerged as the dark horse after having impressed the selectors during the domestic season. The selectors will also pick a pool of 30 players for the Champions Trophy. It is likely that Sourav and Dravid will be included among the probables.
