sandtest Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Today Bhojpuri thrives on double meaning songs....I wonder why Lokgeet lost it's glory of "Birhaa" ( group songs) and Folklores of Raja Bharthari, Harischandra, Alaha-Udal sung by so many local village enthusiasts. A group in our area use to sing entire 1971 war scenario, with full nostalgia! That's Bhojpuri Lokgeet for me!

Just sample this- Main Angoor ka daanaa hoon, Sui na chubha dena, Sui jo chubhai toh ras tapkey ga, jos ras tapkey ga, toh kismish, kishmish ban jaaoongi... if you can understand the metaphor, nothing can get more double meaning than this:haha: also, a Bhojpuri -- Sajnaa ke saath Madahiyaa mein, madahiyaa mein, badaa mazaa aaye, Razayiyaa mein. Tooti gayeee Choodi kalayeeyaa mein, badaa mazaa aaye, razayiyaa mein. (Translate -- Madahiyaa means a hut or a small shanty. Razayiyaa means thick blanket!)
