The incident took place in Salawa village in Moradabad’s Kanth tehsil after the mother-in-law allegedly complained to village elders that her daughters-in-law had not given her food or washed her clothes in the absence of her sons. The village is not new to acts of justice in favour of mothers-in-law, said Dulari, a local panchayat member who goes by one name only. ”Whenever women fight with in-laws, we call a panchayat and imposed a fine depending on the nature of offence carried out.
