Filmmakers, actors and animal rights activists will take part in a global march demanding justice for tigress Avni and her two 10-month-old cubs on Sunday. The march will begin at 4 p.m. at Worli sea face (Common Man statue) up to Shivaji Park in Dadar. The Global March is expected to touch 22 cities across India and 11 countries around the world.

The centre and state announced two separate expert committees to probe the incident.

While the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) set up its own committee, Maharashtra Minister of Forests Sudhir Mungantiwar ordered an inquiry through an independent committee to find out the facts on whether guidelines and procedures given in SOP were followed.

Avni was shot this month when it was “facing away” from the shooter. And the dart found lodged in its left thigh did not show any impact of being “fired from a syringe projector” (tranquilising gun).

These conclusions in the post-mortem witness report submitted by a representative of the Maharashtra forest department contradict the department’s own claim that the tigress was gunned down by them in self-defence after it charged at the team that had fired a tranquiliser dart to immobilise the animal.

The conclusion on the impact of the tranquilising dart is equally damning. While the post-mortem report notes that “fascia beneath darted needle was intact”, the witness report includes photographs to elaborate that “the cannula of the dart had gone into the sub-cutaneous layer and had not penetrated into the underlying muscle”.

Tigress T1 killed, Avni Tigress killed, maharashtra man eating tigress, yavatmal man eating tigress, man eating tigress, sharp shooter, maharashtra forest department

The witness report states: “There was no haemorrhage observed in the muscles at the darting site. Dart fired from a syringe projector (tranquilising rifle) always leaves a significant and obvious haematoma, which was not observed in this case.”

Nothing wrong in putting down a man eating beast. However glad to hear the cubs are rescued. Those cubs(cub in the picture posted by @tweaker)  look huge too and pretty healthy. Is there a way to check their diet :fear1:

Maharashtra is faced with the question of how to rehabilitate the two year-old cubs of Avni, the alleged man-eating tigress of Pandharkwada, who was killed last month. The cubs which were spotted on Thursday at Vihirgaon in Yavatmal plausibly have no takers with the Forest Department and wild life experts stating that the only option is to keep them in captivity.

The two cubs of Avni reportedly hunted down a pony, which was kept as a bait to lure them into a trap, in the Pandkarkawada area of Yavatmal district

The carcass was found in the Maregaon range of Pandharkwada forest division, which confirms that the two cubs, who are aged between 11 and 12 months, are healthy and are moving around.

The final report of the National Tiger Conservation Authority's (NTCA) fact-finding committee has raised questions over the way tigress Avni was killed in Maharashtra last month.

The committee said there was no operational coordination among veterinary professionals and the team which killed the tigress on November 2 in Yavatmal and that the dart for tranquilizing the feline was fired unauthorisedly.

It also said the veterinary drugs were handled by unauthorised person during the operation, in which sharp-shooter Asghar Ali Khan had shot the tigress

When Avni was finally shot dead, her cubs were not found and the forest department had decided to capture them, fearing their maneating mother would have left her “imprint” on them. T1C1 and his female sibling, T1C2, were then about a year old. While T1C2 was captured 50 days after the death of their mother and sent to a large enclosure in the Pench Tiger Reserve, the hunt for T1C1 continues, making it the longest operation in the country to catch a wild cat.
