WC2011INDIA
Would have liked Gill and Iyer in this match to see if they have it in them to chase a fairly good total. Link to comment
Malcolm Merlyn
Malti Chahar should be dropped for good Delicious pace for batsmen to be innovative as much as they canMalti chahar?Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk Link to comment
sandeep
Sundar got spanked today. So did Khaleel and Avesh. This Gaekwad kid just got pinged on the head with a bouncer. Looks good if its not short though. I want to see Anmol bat. Link to comment
sandeep
4 batsmen, a keeper and 5 bowlers today, plus Krunal. And chasing 299 with an opener runout already. Good. A bit of pressure and let's see how the likes of Ishan Kishan and Krunal perform. I just hope the Windies A don't let Vihari put up a soft big score today. Vihari is not a white ball cricketer. sandeep
soft dismissal Gaekwad. Krunal promoted to #4. Good. Link to comment

They are rotating openers. Gaekwad didn't play last match and Gill is not playing today. Shreyas got hit on the thumb while batting in the last match. Not sure if it is the reason for his exclusion. All in all, not a good outing for the pacers. Axar was his usual "steady" self, whereas Krunal bowled quite well I thought. This Sundar experiment needs to stop immediately IMO. throughout his junior career, he was either a batsman who bowls a bit or a batting AR at most. it is ridiculous to convert him into a bowling AR at this stage. Selectors and Dravid should be looking to encourage him as a top 6 bat and develop his bowling as a secondary skill. Link to comment

He's going to have a much more viable career, and add a lot more value to the Indian team, if he can improve as a bowler. If his bowling is going to plateau eventually, there will still be plenty of time for him to pull a "vihari". Krunal seems to be turning into a Indian version of Imad Wasim, I've been disappointed with some of his batting. Let's see how he goes today. Link to comment

sandeep
Krunal looks focused on playing a big one and not throwing it away. Ready to play out dot balls, which is not his preferred batting method. A big score here wouldn't hurt his chances. Vihari playing out a 2nd maiden. Like him as a test prospect, but why is he playing ODIs here. Link to comment

Problem with Sundar's bowling is that it's highly 1D at least as far as I've seen. Makes Jaddu's ODI bowling look like Murali in comparison. Sundar is a decent bowler in T20s because he understands his limitations and focuses solely on run containment (which can net him wkts). In ODIs, where singles and the odd boundary are the norm, he is easily milked for some runs and utterly fails to take wkts (as seen from his List A record). I reckon that he could become an AR but there are stumbling blocks in both formats. In T20s, his bowling is alright but his batting currently lacks that extra gear partly due to lack of practice, some issues with scoring against pacers, etc. In 50 over matches, neither his batting nor bowling is sufficiently well developed. I know Imad Wasim is a limited cricketer, but there are plenty of players who have done even more badly than he has. If Krunal can achieve more than Imad Wasim and become a utility cricketer, it will at least be a good beginning: he can be in the mix for the spin-bowling AR spot. However, my preference is for players who can hold down at least one discipline properly: like Gopal. Link to comment

And that's what A tours are for. To develop and identify areas of improvement. Hardik Pandya realized on an 'A' tour to Australia, that he could bat at a high level. Not saying Sundar will continue to improve as a bowler. But given the right guidance, he might. Let's not be quick to pigeonhole players based on watching them a handful of times - especially the younger ones. Anybody who plays the game will keep evolving as a player, even regressing at times - its part of the sport. Sundar is more likely to make it to the Indian team and contribute, as a bowler who can bowl a full quota in ODIs. Not as a specialist batsman. If eventually he turns into a Raina/yuvi type guy who bowls a handful of overs thats fine - that is no reason to give up on his bowling - all the more reason to try and maximize his bowling capacities by giving him ample opportunities and testing him at the A tour level. vaul
2nd and 3rd matches were at North Sound pitch, which is quick with higher bounce. Moreover, there was grass on surface therefore ball was also seaming.Bangladesh was all out for 43 on the same surface in test.In 2017,Kohli was unable to score single fifty in 2 ODIs played there. 4th and 5th matches are on Coolidge pitch, which is more like Indian pitch-slow with lower bounce. Gill was wrongly given lbw in 2nd match- ball was leaving leg stump as keeper collected the ball down the leg. Moreover, it struck near knee hight on a high bounce pitch. Similarly a WI batsmen was also given lbw on a ball clearly missing the leg stump. Link to comment
