sandeep Posted July 10, 2019 Posted July 10, 2019 I'm ok with India not winning the WC, even crashing out in the SF - but not like this. Failing to chase 240 is really disappointing. KLPD Rahul predicatably shat the bed. He's a mental midget. Dinesh Karthik predictably tried to stick around and made a mental error. He should never make the Indian ODI team, or even T20. This MSK Prasad led Selection committee time and again, put its faith , in experience. Its telling that the 2 batsmen who have done best so far, are the youngest, least "experienced" of the lot. I don't blame Pant for his mistake. He's a rookie after all. And tailunt got a good ball. KLPD and Karthik only have themselves to blame. Not advocating constant chop and change etc, but its time to say goodbye to Prasad and his penchant for giving 2nd and 3rd chances to fringe players who frankly didn't cut the mustard.

Dhoni is done. Has been for a while. We carried him just for this WC. He's history. Virat, well he is still one of best batsmen around. What do you want me to say? That he's got a bad record in crunch games? that he's a bad captain? Sure. Then what. Where do we go from there. It would be counter-productive to take captaincy away from him at this point. It is what it is.
Tendulkar1996 Posted July 10, 2019 Posted July 10, 2019 I have repeatedly said this wc was over the day dhawan went out.We never had a middle order,not for 2 years.We tried to manufacture a middle order by stitching together a bits and pieces player karthik/shankar/kedar,a rookie with potential but zero experience,a has been carried forward and an opener made middle order batsman.Was never going to work.Raina and yuvraj were never replaced.Dhoni is a shadow.

You invest in players hoping they come good. I agree oldies like DK, Jadhav, Dhoni have to go.

Rahul was given a super long rope in test cricket - and deservedly so. He has had umpteen opportunities to really cement his case as the de facto opener in waiting. And has blown a whole bunch of them. You cannot deny that he has a temperament problem. His dismissal today was all too predictable - as was Karthik's. Another guy who is right up there in terms of batting skills. But batting for the national team is not just about possessing skill. On skill and ability, he's right up there in India's best top order batsmen for white ball cricket. But the blunt fact is that in India there are other contenders - How long do you deny the likes of Mayank Agarwal, Prithvi Shaw and co, opportunities? For #4, why shouldn't a Shreyas Iyer be given chances? This is not to single out Rahul, even Jadhav's slot needs to be auditioned for other guys who can give you 5+ overs and bat well - the Nitish Ranas and others of the world.

No he was not, he was given an extended run only in England - the worst place for openers. Before and after he was swapped conveniently for Dhawan, Vijay and then Shaw or Agarwal.

He wasn't just dropped "conveniently". And by the time he was benched, it was a favor to him to put him out of his misery and give him a chance to build back some confidence. I am talking only of ODI chances, selected for WC , he shouldn’t be dropped from ODIs without given as many chances as say Rohit. Or Dhawan. People mix form in formats so conveniently.
