McGrath is the greatest bowler to play the game, he was not as lethal as Ambrose or Donald but had more concentration power and patience than both to bowl long testing spells. McGrath will not knock your head or injure your toe but you fear him because he can get you out anytime. Ambrose was 10 kph slower than Donald on average but his weapon was the steep bounce where he can get the ball to shoot up to forehead from fuller lengths. Donald had better SR so he would take wickets much quicker than McGrath or Ambrose. Link to comment

Donald in that time frame was handsdown the fastest in the world. Between I would say 1993-1997 and as hostile as any of the bowlers from the 70s and 80s He was way faster consistently than the 2 Ws,2 C’s, Mcgrath and Srinath. I think 2-3 years after this era we had Bond,Akthar and Lee who kind of set a different benchmark for express pace for years to come. I remember having a discussion about this with @express bowling and @rkt.india Donald one of my favourites, also has of the most beautiful action and run up for a fast bowler along with Mike Holding, Brett Lee, Shane Bond and Mitch Starc. Probably the top 5 best fast bowling actions ever. Link to comment

Statistically yes, but he would get hammered for runs sometimes due to him being more on skiddy side, and Donald was like Waqar Younis, relying too much on pace. It was very hard to hit Ambrose for fours, also true for McGrath. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0eTwIm_f5c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pQBzckYG8w Link to comment

Donald was an attacking bowler. McGrath didn't go for wickets. Donald used to be aggressive to get wickets even if he had to bowl a half volley to get edges. McGrath bowled good length, short of good length most of his career. He played on patience of the batsmen. Edited April 8, 2020 by rkt.india Link to comment
