kosingh Posted May 9, 2020 Posted May 9, 2020 The one week delay in announcing the person to person spread would not have changed a thing for most of the world. Most countries became serious about this several weeks after person to person spread was confirmed anyway.

Might have cost Korea, Taiwan etc preparation time. But UK US etc weren't doing a thing. They weren't doing a thing even after it was obvious there was a major problem. Boris wanted herd immunity for UK. Trump was calling it a hoax. China screwed up. But the outcome would not be as any different from or half the world.

Korea, Taiwan and Japan didn't follow WHO advice to continue international flights In Feb 2020, WHO was still parroting, "Flight bans not needed to beat covid" and same time Chinese government was moaning and accusing countires banning entry of Chinese citizens going against UN convention etc. Europe and US followed WHO advice, only coming to senses latter that WHO was compromised by Chinese influence. But you are right, the leaders of US and Europe were arrogant and over-confident, not taking this threat seriously. Whilst likes of Taiwan, Korea and Japan know when a Chinese Communist party is full of sh!t and implement stringent measures as early as Jan 2020.

Even more scandalous was WHO continually repeating to not stop international travel from China as late as Feb 2020. China continued to allow their citizens to travel overseas and even warning other countries not to ban entry of Chinese citizens. Whilst Chinese government stopped all domestic flights in Jan 2020. And imposed strict lock down and travel restrictions to/from Beijing and Shanghai.
