Laxman and the tail

I know that there are a lot of Laxman fans out there, who are obviously filled with praise and inspiration for the stylish hyderabadi. But it is quite evident and I think that he is yet to learn a lot in the art of batting with the tail. Is Laxman still feeling insecure about his place in the team? Does he not think that if he risks his wicket away, yuvraj will replace him? I hate to say this but, the way he did not attempt big shots in the end today made me feel, he got a little selfish. Atleast he did not play a huge knock, for us to think that he is tired.

For FFS Laxman should bat at 3! He scores fast usually and is in good form. RD in his current form might score at 30 SR which isn't going to help the team's cause much. This happened as recently as in the Sydney test where he scored a marvelous counter-attacking 100 at number 3. Why muck around when something works?!?

No he isn't selfish, its just that batting with the tail has never been his forte, he is just not that kind of player. But unfortunately he has been made to do that for most of his career.

Ganguly, I think, should be replaced by Yuvraj at this stage. YS failed in Australia alright, but on these conditions, he would be just as destructive as Viru. His century against Pakistan can tell you that.

Yuvi should replace Jaffer as opener. And face the test of new ball. If he fails, banished to 20/20 land forever. If he succeeds, place cemented in Test side and we have a super dynamic opening pair. This way Gangles can cool his heels at No 6 behind Laxman. Don't all throw eggs at once okay?

I have been crying my throat hoarse that only power hitters do well with the Tail and plainly, Laxman isnt one. When the team is six down and the tail starts coming and wickets fall in a flurry, you need your specialist batsman at the other end to take some calculated risks, so that the attention of the fielding captain is deflected from picking wickets to containing the runs. Laxman however, is at best a mute spectator to the carnage that happens at the other end. Yuvraj will make a terrific no.6

It depends on the situation guys. Yesturday, Laxman should have come out instead of Dravid at No. 3. We have to shift depending on what is currently needed. If we have a minnor top order collapse, then the wall is there later on to put a stop to it if possible.

On livelier tracks, where runs are at a premium, Dravid can do a good job of holding one end up (subject to good form) at 3. In all other conditions, whoever is in good nick should bat at no. 3. It could be Ganguly, Dravid or Laxman, depending on form.

Ganguly made 239 in the same match, and was Man of the Series.
