Was this a great or fair all-time XI of Rodney Marsh?

3 Pakistan cricketers chosen in xi of Rodney Marsh.Arguably excluded Sunil Gavaskar who was the best opening batsmen of his time in official cricket and instated the more agressive Gordon Greenidge.Chose Javed Miandad instead of Greg Chappell or Alan Border ,Imran Khan instead of Botham,Hadlee or Kapil and Abul Qadir instead of Bishen Bedi or Derek Underwood.

Miandad was not as classy,technically correct or even statistically Alan Border's or Greg Chappell's equal but was more effective in a crisis than Greg and could niggle oponents more than Border.Qadir was not as classical as Bedi or Underwood but more disguised,like a magician.Botham was the best allrounder from 1977-82 but still Imran was the better fast bowler.

I most like Marsh's choice of Ian Chappell as the skipper who was master tactician and best batsmen in a crisis.Also good choice of Andy Roberts,the most complete pace bowler with Dennis Lillee of that era.

Unfair to Sunil Gavaskar who broke all the batting records of the day who should have been thee instead of Barry or Greenidge.Botham overshadowed Imran as an all-rounder in era of Marsh but arguably Imran was a more defining cricketer.

 

I respect Rodney for selecting players fom his own era so can understand omissin of Tendulkar,Bradman,Lara,Wasim,Warne etc.Howler still upset about exclusion of Gavaskar and,arguably even Botham or Hadlee,

ICF viwers do youll feel Miandad,Imran and Qadir were fair selections?Also what about the others like Ian Chappell or Andy Roberts?

Barry Richards was a great talent, but the world would never know how he would have fared due to the apartheid ban. Rod Marsh saw Gavaskar in piss poor form in the 1980-81 series. That is the only test series he played against India. He did not tour India. Looks like he only picked players of his era. He did not even consider Greg Chappell, the best Aussie batsman of this generation and a decent captain. Ian was slightly better captain, but a much inferior batsman. I do not get that selection. Also there were better middle order batsman than Miandad.

For a world 11 I think Marsh's team is not up to the mark. There can be significantly better players in it.

 

Like Sunny instead of Grenidge, Sachin instead of Miandad and more better replacements.
