zen Posted August 23, 2020 Author Posted August 23, 2020 (edited) My list will be influenced by the ones that I saw recently and/or are in my film collection. The favorites tend to change with time as well. I would classify these films into 2 categories: Ones that require you to be in the right mood (as you have to be focused): 2001: A Space Odyssey and Barry Lyndon Ones that you can put on relatively anytime: The Killing, Paths of Glory, Spartacus, Dr. Strangelove, and The Shining In the first category I will go with 2001 - it is like watching Sholay (implying blockbuster feeling) when in the right mood .... Barry Lyndon is like a series of beautiful paintings In the 2nd category, it is difficult to pick one but if I have to watch one now, I will go with the epic Spartacus (probably the original Gladiator), a film that Kubrick tends to disown due to interferences by the producers but the film has Kubrick's touches that elevates it to a classic, sports excellent cast (including Oscar winning performance by Ustinov), and is fun - "I am Spartacus" .... Dr. Strangelove and Paths of Glory hardly ever fail to impress but have watched them too many times. The Shining and The Killing are excellent too Of these I have 2001, Barry Lyndon, Spartacus, The Shining, and Dr Strangelove in my collection. Ranvir Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 I've only seen Spartacus, Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut. All 3 were great, my favourite was Eyes Wide Shut, I wonder if that film cost him his life?

Don't you think it's suspicious how he died before Eyes Wide Shut was released. Apparently Kubrick was fighting hard with the studio to have some even more controversial scenes included and suddenly he died. The movie definitely has some truths to it.

Kubrick is used to dealing with studios. He was probably known to be like an emperor ...
