TNAmarkFromIndia Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 A bunch of Indian batsmen have made a case for themselves in the IPL this season and we're only into the second week. Who do you think would be the best choice for India at No. 6? 1. Pant: Has played for India and has scored runs at domestic and IPL level. Yet doesn't inspire confidence in LOIs. You think it's only a matter of time before he loses his wicket going for an ugly slog or one-handed hoick to cow corner. Also doesn't inspire confidence in a situation where India loses early wickets and he has to stay at wicket and build a big partnership, but he seems to be working on that. 2. Kishan: Hasn't scored as much runs at domestic or IPL as Pant but is capable of clearing the boundary and destroying attacks on his day. Performance overseas is a question mark. Also seems more suited at No. 4 or 5 rather than 6. 3. Samson: Also hasn't scored big runs at domestic or IPL but has a lot of potential. His big hitting makes him perfect for No. 6 and can also be bat like a top order player if wickets are lost early, but he's never been consistent. 4. Suryakumar Yadav: Has performed very well at domestic but not as much at IPL. Capable of scoring quickly making him an ideal No. 6 but he's not getting any younger. 5. Rana: Has performed at IPL but not as much in domestic cricket. Capable of hitting big shots and his off-spin is a plus, but it's questionable whether he's done enough to deserve an India call-up over others. Anyone else?
Lone Wolf Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 Pant doesn't look like a ideal no 6. He is easily better than all of them if played in Top 4. At the moment it is either Rana or Kishan. Has to be a lefti imo.
Ankit_sharma03 Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 None With hardik injury u need someone who can do hardik role of 5th bowler, now hardik will be 6th bowler for some time So the answer is jaddu or axar , unless hardik gains full bowling fitness
Ankit_sharma03 Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 Samson is best used in top 3 like Rohit, he always scores in IPL n for India A in top 3....start sending him below his runs dry up SKy a t20 prospect not ODI Pant and kishen can bat at 6 easily
Ankit_sharma03 Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 Since kuldeep has lost form and Saini, bumrah, shami, bhuvi will end up taking 3 slots among themselves jaddu becomes the 2nd spinner and will go in top 7

Coz he can score quick runs but when format gets longer u need quality to play big innings. In that case there are so many ahead of him . He can be selected for ODI but i dnt see him as a right player in ODI. With iyer, rahul pandya fixed...we need someone who can bowl specially 7+ overs over consistently after pandya injury.

Many will have in domestic ultimately quality matters. Its not that pant or kishen has fixed slots. India domestic 50 over is the most poorely organized tournament, half the games being pls played on poor pitches. Acc to list A KL rahul shudnt even score quickly .....his s.r is of rahane level in list A. And sky did went on Nz A tour and did nothing much . He is best suited for quick short innings that to coz we lack options of player who can do that.

Coz he played most of those ODI in wc which was his struggling phase. Before that the same guy s.r was excellent in t20. Now his odi s.r have jumped up . Domestic stats shud be taken till a point, zak crawly n marnus labuschane are another recent example. It will be the next jadhav kind of thing with sky. International cricket is a completely diff beast. Neways sky doesnt bowl much so he cant even fight for that spot for long. Now that he is in A team he has to perform there.

Same guy who was batting at 140 s.r in t20. So a very small sample suggesting he cudnt play quick on other hand he had one of the best s.r in t20 for india. Thats why stats dnt show the true pic, kl rahul was the guy who made 100 batting at 4 in t20 in 2016 but few odi games suggesting he cudnt bat first and as time went on it proved wrong. Even this yrs vijay hazare s.r is 81 ..and when he came back he played a knock of 80 in 60 balls against aus with starc n cummins.

Once ur a level higher List A wont matter, so sky isnt ahead in no way then these guys coz one has been performing for India A and other has 100s in eng n Aus Which yadav had which decent series against NZ ?
maniac Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 If it’s no:6 Pant and Samson don’t inspire confidence because they seem like Top 3 batsmen who need pace on the ball. Kishen is probably a better bet but I have serious doubts on his ability to handle pace at the highest level. unfortunately for now it’s Pandya who has 0 brains but can handle the heat. Controversial choice but Rahul would be great or Sarfaraz who I rate highly. Sky and Rana well OP I am sure you remember our debates about Jadhav
