Entertaining series so far! (Ind in Aus 2020)

After having watched around 500 games (if not more) covering Ind and other teams in various formats over the years, I am not too concerned about win/loss results in bilaterals. I have seen Ind lose tons of tosses, games (even snatch defeat from the jaws of victory), and so on.  To me it is more about enjoying good cricket and that is what this thread is about. 

 

ODIs 

 

Aus

 

• S Smith: What a performance by Smith! The key reason why Aus won the series. Amazing batting! 
• Warner-Finch p'ship: The best opening pair v Ind. Probably avg around 100 if I recall correctly. Made me revisit Jayasuriya dominance in his good days (brutal for the opposition)
• Maxwell: The ODI format, defined role and home grounds have made him perform at his best again 
• Cummins: Liked how he had plans for key Indian batsmen esp. when bowling in the last 1/3rd of the innings
• Hazlewood: Looked threatening and provided breakthroughs 

 

Ind 

 

• SDP (Hardik): What a talented cricketer! Most runs for Ind in the series so far. Highest score at #6. Despite recuperating from back injury, bowled innovatively and economically (maybe used his experience of what he found challenging while batting to dish it out to others) to take a wkt (could have had 2). In the 2nd match, it was also interesting to see how the Aus bowlers were at the top of their game and focused when bowling to him. Hardly anything was bowled in the slot when he wanted to hit everything for a 6. Hoping that it is a good learning experience for him as well and would come back strongly. That period of focused bowling reminded me of the Lillee over to Richards: 

 

 

 

 

The last game at Canberra is likely to continue the trend of high scoring games. If Ind bats first, I would like to see if it can be as dominating as Aus. I would not mind if Bumrah & Shami are rested (would not have minded if they had skipped the LOIs altogether and played in the first tour game as I want them at their freshest and mentally pumped up for the Tests). Maybe bring in some of the guys who are expected to play T20s in the game to give them a head start .... Another point of interest would be if Smith can get his 3rd century in a row in the series! Starc is coming back to cricket after a long break if I am not wrong so would slowly be getting into his rhythm .... Since Ind would be the underdog, its comeback would taste sweeter!

Smith's batting has been a treat to watch, the highest level of ODI batsmanship we have seen in a long time. Already established himself as the test GOAT and ICC KO GOAT. If he can take JAMODIs a bit more seriously his ODI creds too will get a boost, we all have seen what he is capable of, B2B 60 ball tons against first choice Indian attack and fully in control, don't see any other batsman doing it, not even those English freaks.
