coffee_rules Posted June 1, 2021 Posted June 1, 2021 The takeoff is very scary than the landing. Nepal might have had the most amount of air and chopper accidents. It's very unsafe. Mangaluru in Kar has a tabletop runaway which also had a history of mishaps.

Few reasons: The runway is very short The runway is at an incline One end of the runway is a brick wall (the runway is carved out of the side of a mountain) There are no real options to "go around" and try again. You have to get your speed, height and approach on target. The runway is at ~ 2, 600 metres. Air density decreases as altitude increases. This affects engine performance. Wind coming off the mountains creates rotor turbulence. There is "low lying cloud" (relative to the airport) that makes navigation very difficult. zen 1
