zen Posted June 4, 2021 Author Posted June 4, 2021 I hope that ppl are not confused b/w best and favorite. Those are two different things. A Mughal-e-Azam would be better than a Sholay but Sholay would be favorite over it for many One of the criteria of favorite should be asking yourself, can you watch the film 3 times in a month.. Guide, even though a superb film, I can probably watch it 3 times in 3 years (more like 1 in 3 years). On the other hand, JMN, Jewel Thief, etc., you could watch them 3 times in a month rkt.india 1
coffee_rules Posted June 4, 2021 Posted June 4, 2021 Who’s the authority to decide best vs favorite? I feel the Top 100 best film lists of IMDb, Rotten takkalis or some obscure Film Institutions’ lists are nothing but a bunch of people sitting and listing their favorites.

Best films would have received awards, critical acclaim, praise, have technical brilliance, etc. Or later on acquired cult status (many films can be ahead of their time). You are talking about Citizen Kane, Vertigo, Seven Samurai, Lawrence of Arabia, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and so on Favorites are usually films that you would watch frequently. Say you are a police officer or a sick person, in this case you would be required to wear a uniform or eat specific food respectively. Out of your free will and without restrictions, you are likely to wear clothes of the colors that you like and eat food that satisfies your palate so the ability to repeat is a good benchmark So one can rate Spartacus as best but the favorite could be Gladiator for e.g … One can rate Yojimbo as the best but the favorite could be Django … One can rate Godfather as the best, but the favorite could be Scarface … One can rate 2001: A Space Odyssey as the best but the favorite could be Star Wars … One can even have a Tom & Jerry cartoon as favorite … Mughal-e-Azam is one of the best Bollywood films but it may not be among favorites for many (I won’t be surprised if some folks even find it boring) … Tarkovsky’s Stalker (Russian) is one of the best films ever made but 80% of folks here may not even like it (and many may have not even heard of it) … In some cases, both best and favorite can be the same Edited June 4, 2021 by zen
