5 wickets for the man and a hattrick!!!! Welcome back Bala boy B-)
L Balaji 4 0 24 5 6.00 what a strike rate and economy! somebody has lined him in the que with McGrath...though its too early to say but this was a performance very much in tune to the mentioned bowler who is ahead of Balaji.

^^ well he needs time and he is not even half the bowler he was..its gud that he is getting to play serious cricket now..and as time goes by im sure he ll make it to the squad..
He would definitely reshaped into a full bowler with pace and deliveries very soon...after this glittering performance.
his pace is down SIGNIFICANTLY! he needs some rehab time in domestics Wish him the best!
Today's performance and hat-trick will play its trick definitely...he will be boosted par expectations in his rehab.

he clocked 96.8 kph :P i didnt see him go more than 127ish he was pretty much between 115-127ish
Okies, thanks for the update! but, he has used tempting deliveries at the right moment...batsmen went for lofty shots and paid him in terms of the hat-trick! 7-163 (Pathan, 19.3 ov), 8-163 (Chawla, 19.4 ov), 9-163 (Singh, 19.5 ov) :two_thumbs_up::two_thumbs_up::two_thumbs_up:

Bala's run-up and action looked very good. Just as good as they were back in '05. The pace will come with more match practice - he is coming back after a long lay-off, so he will obviously be a bit rusty. He was never all that quick though - it was his ability to move the ball both ways off the seam which made him an exciting prospect. He got his batsmen caught as they were going for big shots under pressure, but a hat-trick is a hat-trick. Good luck to him

Bala had been bowling upto 135k in nets...and in the practice games Chennai Superkings played among themselves he was hitting 130k I heard. But I think Dhoni/team mngt has devised a very specific role and plan for him, where he bowls as the 4th bowler and takes pace off the ball and hits a good line/length. We can see his real pace only in 4 day games.

yep' date=' around 115-125...many deliveries were around 118[/quote'] But, he has bowled well with the time-tested deliveries. He got his hat trick in a similar manner by bowling 3 deliveries that tempted the batsmen and they gave lollypops to the fielders.

Pace will be the last thing on his mind when he'll be bowling. It's only the arm chair experts and the ones watching are usually concerned with pace. It's not like the bowlers will know what pace they are bowling in the game or will be focussing only on bowling quick unless you are Shoaib Akthar. With rythm, good run up and delivery comes pace. Usually the bowlers will be working on bowling to their field, line and length or bowling to a plan decided in the dressing room. You can ask any bowler worth his salt and he will mention not once will they be thinking about the pace they are bowling in a game.

So whether or not the bowlers think abt it during their run up stride, they are gonna think abt it in practice. I think ur above post tends to gloss over one of the important facets of pace bowling (not sure if u intended to, but the tone of it comes across as such). U dont need to hit express pace. But surely for consistency at Intl level, you need a decent 132+, 135ish pace.

Balaji never promised he's going to bowl at at least 132. Why the grapevine? BTW the bowling stats does not show how many balls he bowled at 130ish, how many 120ish, how many 150ish and so forth. As for as I know Balaji took 5 fer and deserved to be MOM. BTW they don't use speed guns in training to figure how quick they are bowling. If you did not know, the bowlers never go flat out in trainings. Pace is not about looking at the speed guns and trying hard to increase the pace by going heart out in trainings. It's all about one step at a time when coming back from injury in particular. Moreover this is not even international cricket and is a Twenty20. Balaji has had two games so far and looks promising. Pace with come with rhythm, bowling regularly and being physically fit. It's only the fans that gets excited the minute the pace crosses 140. In reality there's not much difference between 128k and 132k. Similarly there is not much difference between facing bowlers that bowl at 135k and 140k. Time and again more than the pace it is the bounce, seam and swing that get the batsmen worrying.

I think RP has been better than Nehra to be honest. He's never given away too many runs at the death - yorkers on demand. Irfan has been tremendous for Punjab. Gony is also doing pretty well.
whenever RP bowls (either for DC or India), I expect stumps to be shattered atleast once in the match
