Was there any test in which Aussies were outplayed during their peak years?

But the team did well. They should have won test1 and and test 3. Both draws. 

Without rain aus would have won 1st & 2nd test, nz would won only 3rd test. Aus had 200 first innings lead in 1st test and they batted only 14 over in 2nd innings, so u cant say nz dominated them in 1st test .

Absolutely.... bowling wise in 1979/80 just after Packer - Aus had Lillee, Thomson, Hogg in Aus and the Windies with Roberts/Holding/Croft/Garner beat them handily 2-0 in Aus in a 3 match series winning matches by 10 wickets and 408 runs.

 

Even the heroes of 2000s Hayden and Gilchrist were well old enough to play in 1995/96  but that is when Walsh and Ambrose could still bowl fast and could not handle them.  Did not make even make the team.

. Windies was good because they were up against atleast 3 average sides. Australia/England/India in the 80s. Most of the team had no well rounded attacks. Mostly 1 or 2 good bowlers.  Once you see them off you can simply dominate others.  Lillee was the main guy for Australia. Kapil for India. Also batting was poor back then. Even India dominated AUstralia in the 80s home and away. England was a piss poor team. All these Windies players were regular county players. Conditions were not really unfamiliar.  But Windies could not dominate new zealand like they did the other teams. Even the one bowler Hadlee was too good. They shared the honors during the 80s. Soda bottle cap team also got away against Windies. With bouncer restriction same Windies team will not be able to dominate.  

 

Even in the 90s no ball calls were missed and we lost a test. In the 80s West indies used intimidation tactics by overstepping deliberately.  Umpiring was extremely biased in Australia/West Indies/Pakistan.  Umpires can't get back home safely after giving out to Richards.  These are the attacks they had to face in the 80s. Hardly you are going to lose sleep over against these attacks. Kapil/Imran/Hadlee were the best against them.  Botham/WIllis were hardly a threat against Windies.  Lawson, Aldermann, Mcdermott showed up only against England a rubbish team.
