maniac
Anyone else find them tough to watch now. I am not talking about the movie content or technical aspects of the movies themselves but the visual quality when you watch them on your latest HD TV’s ,OLED, QLED screens etc. Doesn’t matter if it is streaming platforms or YouTube (legit copy), the visual quality is unbearable. On the flip side older Hollywood movies look fine. I recently watched a bit of casino and the quality looked Up to date with the standards now. I just can’t get myself to watch an older Indian movie now . Sure a clip or 2 on YouTube is bearable but not the entire movie. One of my friends is a gamer, he specifically bought an older Tv ( remember those big bulky color TV’s) to play retro games (Mario etc) because they look much better on old school TV’s than the latest ones. I just thought he was being nit picky but there might be some truth to it. Is it because most older Indian movies aren’t upscaled? Anyone else feel this way? maniac
I would add pre 2000’s. Some of the black and white movies look better than the mid 90’s movies. They are probably the worst. Edited January 11, 2022 by maniac
zen
Yeah, most of the old Bollywood films need to be restored properly in 4K (not simply upscaled). Many of the films also are heavily DNRed which can remove details. maniac

Ideally, one also should turn off the following settings on a modern TV: Sharpness 0 (as adding sharpness artificially can add artifacts. HD and 4K content would be sharp already) Dynamic contrast, Auto motion, Noise reduction, Digital Noise reduction, etc. to off (different brands can have different moniker) Use an app like https://www.thx.com/tune-up-app/ to get the colors roughly accurate Edited January 11, 2022 by zen Vijy and diga
