The query mentioned in the topic title gave me the following results, sorted by bowling average.

https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=3;filter=advanced;host=2;orderby=bowling_average;size=150;spanmax3=12+Apr+2022;spanmin3=12+Apr+2017;spanval3=span;template=results;type=bowling

Scroll down to DR Sams, who has the worst bowling average. Now, we slowly move up from Mr. Sams, trying to figure out if there is a consistent type of bowler who does not work in Australia.

While doing research on Mitchell Swepson, came across this video which is truly priceless for Kohli's reaction

This guy is in the mold of Warnie, has the best bowling record amongst spinners in Australia and I'm sure he's gonna run through the top and middle order of many teams. "Flat trajectory flippers and 'skidders' with the occasional loopy delivery. [...] quick-arm action and his deceptive flipper which many batsmen failed to read as the ball hurried on to them." Take a look at this hat-trick video.

EB, do you see any pattern?

Most of these pacers have played so few matches that it is difficult to form any opinion.

I guess atleast 10 innings are needed and most pacers in this list have not played that many matches.

Data sampling and modelling is my bread and butter. Every time I make a mistake, I lose a lot of money. I have a few tricks up my hip-pocket to deal with insufficient data.

I did gather some insights, but nothing which are not already known here to experts like you about bowling in Australia. Let me collate all the analysis and see if I can reinforce the existing insights backed with data as well as unearth some fresh ones.

One more thing, I was searching for similar data for BBL. You know, a list of all the bowlers for 2020-21 with their average, strike rate, economy, etc. Like the one I've linked in the OP. But couldn't find a way to do so. I could get a list of best bowling figures, but not all bowling figures. I'll buy a beer to anyone who could find me such a list.

Have a good day!

Very few short pacers in the list ,both jhye and lahiru are sharp.even nattu was bowling 135-140 yorkers in the t20s in aus .

How tall is Harris Rauf? Doesn’t seem that tall but seen him bowl quick in Australia.

Yes, good observation, MultiB48, a common trait running through all successful bowlers in that list. Aussies make cricketers out of athletes; we make athletes out of cricketers.

I won't completely agree but cricketers of aus ,sa are better athletes.Maybe because they play other sports like tennis, rugby and Aussie rules.

In the early 2000s they were trying to make Aussie rules more athletic by scouting for guys who were 6ft 4 and can run quickly but now they have realised that you cant overlook skill and have gone back to skilled players .

I think a balance can be achieved with a minimum acceptance benchmark for both. Like, for pacers, height 6'0'' and a level of skills that is reflected in their Junior-level record.
