Performance of batsmen after the age of 35 in Tests

None of the Indian averages above 50 after the age of 35.  Dravid - 12 cenutries, Tendulkar -12 centuries.   Kallis 10 centuries in his last 26 tests ! Amazing.

Indian batsman play beyond their past date too so no surprise there. Had Tendulkar not stretched so long, he would have that average over 50. I would be interested to know Rohit's test average though, his test game has been better in last 2-3 years than it was ever.

 

Also, looks like Imran Khan in his final years went Jadeja way. Became a world class batsman (arguably)  while bowled lesser.

Rohit is still only 34. If we use 32 to 34 filter he is averaging 55.

We don't have that many 35 plus batsmen bar guys like Ashwin.   If we talk about ODI we have Dhawan

19 ODIs  52 avge 81 strike rate.  His form is not that terrible. His low strike rates were mostly against Windies/Zimboks.

One of the biggest myths in Indian cricket is that star players here play well beyond their sell by date. That's far from truth. 

 

That's only true for a very few players like SRT, Dhoni and Rahane(!!). Most other teams have similar cases. 

 

Players like Dravid, Laxman, Ganguly, etc were dumped unceremoniously.

19 ODIs  52 avge 81 strike rate.  His form is not that terrible. His low strike rates were mostly against Windies/Zimboks.  

Dhawan in recent times has played a lot of ODIs vs weaker teams where he batted risk free and looked to score runs consistently,hence that average of 52 and strike rate is 81 because he batted selfishly too ensuring there is no question regarding his place.
