waga Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 Its the cost of having a sport where the conditions are actually relevant. But still its clearly a product of its time. In England there is pros and cons to batting first or second. It could rain changing the conditions again, there used to even be uncovered pitches adding another element of randomness not under control of who batted first. But you would never ever do it in the subcontinent where pitches just linearly deteriorate. Batting first is such a massive advantage. Its literal free runs. And post 2018 its kind of the other way in SENA where pitches just flatten out. Nobody wins bowling last because its just so flat. Bazball is just johnny bairstow playing white ball innings on those pavements, its what made headingly and the gabba a thing.
Chakdephatte Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 What's wrong with being condition dependent. Cricket is played the way it is. You can't define how an ideal sport should look like. Lord and sage 1 1
BacktoCricaddict Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 (edited) Sports are not stupid. People are. It is only an issue in T20s (where there is no time to adapt) at specific venues and specific times of day. It is easy enough to schedule around that. Edited September 13, 2022 by BacktoCricaddict
BacktoCricaddict Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 How about let the XIs be finalized 10 min after the toss, so the teams can pick guys based on the conditions? It would add to the intrigue.
