zen Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 (edited) Let's classify age into groups: 25 or less (Introduction): Young and learning 26-29 (Growth): Improved and at peak or moving towards his peak 30-33 (Maturity): Experienced and still at peak or near peak 34 or more (Decline): Reputation with flashes of peak/near peak performances Let's look at Aus to see how its world cup squad is segmented: 25 or less: Green, Inglish (withdrawn) 26-29: Cummins, Agar, David 30-33: Hazlewood, Marsh, Maxwell, Richardson, Smith, Starc, Stoinis, Zampa 34 or more: Finch, Wade, Warner 3 out of 15 = 20% of the squad. Those in the 34 or more age bracket are players who bring certain skills to the table to keep themselves relevant while maintaining adequate fitness levels. Since we did A for Aus, let's go to the opposite end to do Z for Zim: 25 or less: Evans, Madande, Madhevere, Munyonga, Muzarabani, Ngarava, Shumba 26-29: Buri, Jongwe, Masakadza 30-33: Charata 34 or more: Ervine, Chakabva, Raza, Williams Again around 3-4 players in the 34 or more age bracket, and these players are in as they have kept themselves relevant Therefore, age is not everything is usually applicable if you remain fit and keep yourself relevant by bringing in some special skills including form relative to options available! If Warner and Raza do well, we cannot necessarily say that age is not relevant as a) these players only form a handful # of their squads, b) have kept themselves relevant and fit My 2 cents! Autonomous Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 I think its more about mindset, form, and adaptability when it comes to T20 cricket. For example - Hafeez had a great patch in last two years of his t20 cricket when he was scoring runs for fun despite having a mediocre career. Similarly - I don't like Iftikhar Ahmed at all (everyone knows about his age factor as well sinc ehe is known as "chacha"). Yet - he was able to score runs against India. Reason being the approach towards game and adaptability - He knew he won't be able to score against pace and then quickly lashed onto as soon as spin came. So my opinion is that form, mindset/game plan, and adaptability of the player are critical success factors in t20 cricket. Age is just a number..

Good post but a case of reading the title and not understanding the OP
SRT100 Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 Age is only an issue if your performance drops. If it doesnt, its an irrelevant variable.
