Gavaskar may be many things but he was/is always about wanting players getting maximum benefit.

You answered your question. Just like Seinfeld actors , didn’t put it in the contract for royalty. Larry David and Seinfeld did. So, players don’t get paid royalty. There is no point in crying about it. As @nevada put it, they can look at their brand value getting increased and can charge more for public appearances

That is why he is saying talking about Amitabh’s verdict. 

 

Brand value is the result of their whole career and that’s has got nothing to with  tv networks cashing from their success.

Amitabh is an performing artist not a sportsman . KD can also  copyright his voice, mannerisms etc
