Majestic Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 Lets track the right possible team for ODI World Cup this year. Shikhar Dhawan is not selected for NZ ODI series also which means India have clearly started to move beyond him. Next in line is probably Mohammad Shami but he has been selected for ODI squad since Bumrah or Prasidh have still been injured. Rohit and Kohli are not at their all time peak but they are still performing and doing well enough for anyone to raise question against them. Kohli has a hundred each in both the series vs SL and BD while Rohit's knock vs BD was hyped enough by his fans by calling it brave, courageous etc and he also gave a good start vs SL too. The likely team as of now :- Top order(4)- Rohit, Gill, Kishan, Kohli Middle order(3) - Shreyas, KLR, SKY All rounders(3) - Pandya, Jadeja, Axar( Sundar as reserves) Spinners(2)- Kuldeep, Chahal Fast bowlers(3)- Bumrah, Siraj, Umran( need a fast bowler for backup option) So, Sundar is one reserve option, a fast bowler is required more for another reserve option and third reserve option can be Shardul/D Chahar or a keeper like Sanju or Pant( not likely to make it). The choices for fast bowler would be Shami, Prasidh, Kuldeep Sen and maybe they get one via IPL this year. All in all, that is the only place where India need to work on. Rest of the selections for squad seems pretty obvious.
cricketfan28 Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 All depends of Sharma and Kohli, if they can return to some version of previous form we have decent chance to finish as top 4. Good thing Dhawan Bhai is not considered anymore.

The Koffee with Karan duo will have a key role to play if we have to finish games in World Cup.

speedracer Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 Amidst all doom and gloom I think India has a very good chance to win the WC. Hopefully for once we can win the toss in semis and finals. We can definitely win. Just need to pick the right combo. Right players.

I doubt TM is going to include so many spin options. If Jadeja comes back then Axar offers nothing extra to the TM. My guess is Top order (4) -> Rohit, Kishan, Kohli, Gill Middler Order (3)-> Shreyas, KL, SKY (Hooda as backup) Allrounder (3) -> Pandya, Jadeja, Sundar (Shardul/DC as backup) Spinners (1) -> Chahal (Kuldeep as backup) Pacers (4) -> Bumrah, Siraj, Umran, Arshdeep (Shami as backup) If Prasidh/Kuldeep Sen is in form then they ideally should leapfrog Arshdeep as they bring bounce + pace factor. But if not then Arshdeep will takeover due to his left arm utility.
