Emerging Players Tournament, 2008

Another news about this tournament: SA need to be at their best for title defence, says Kepler COACH Kepler Wessels says South Africa will have to be at their best when they defend the emerging cricket teams title in Australia next month. Wessels, fresh from coaching the Chennai Super Kings to a runners-up position in the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL), says the competition will be even tougher than last year. “It looks like there‘s a very strong Indian team this time around,†said Wessels yesterday. “Some of the guys in the team have played for India before and they‘ve all played in the IPL. So they‘ll definitely be tough competition.†The South Africans will play two Twenty20 exhibition matches and a quadrangular, 50-over series against Australia, India and New Zealand. The former South African captain, who was also in charge when they won the tournament last year, cast his eye over some of his team members during a national emerging players batting camp at the NMMU campus yesterday. The four-day camp is part of a series of similar programmes that have been held at various venues around the country. The idea is to work with certain players that the national selectors have identified as future stars and to develop them as much as possible. The other coaches that lent their expertise yesterday were Eric Simons, Shukri Conrad and High Performance manager Vince van der Bijl. The players attending the camp this week are: Henry Davids, Dean Elgar, Imraan Khan, Vaughn van Jaarsveld, JP Duminy, Alviro Petersen, Justin Ontong, Andrew Puttick, Heino Kuhn and Johan Botha. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- So SA is the defending champion and this tournament is held on a yearly basis. Wonder how we were so unaware of it till now!!

And this news is from Indian camp: India ‘A’, fringe players’ camp begins Bangalore: A round of medical tests and fitness assessment sessions marked the inaugural day of the India ‘A’ and fringe players’ camp at the National Cricket Academy here on Thursday. The pace bowlers were tested on both the medical and fitness parameters while the batsmen and spinners had one-to-one sessions with their respective coaches. “The players are eager. They are mature and most of them have played in the IPL. We are not exactly coaching them, its all about fine-tuning their skills,†said G.R. Viswanath, batting consultant. Bowlers Ashish Nehra, Ranadeb Bose and Vijay Kumar were notably absent among the 30 players. Academy sources said that Bose and Vijay were recuperating. There was no news on Nehra. Ajit Agarkar, L. Balaji, Munaf Patel, V.R.V. Singh, Siddharth Trivedi and Pankaj Singh are some of the prominent bowlers at the camp. On Saturday, the batsmen and spinners will have their medical and fitness tests like skin-folds which measure the ratio of fat to body mass. The camp is expected to gather steam from Monday. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'd have liked a more detailed news. What kind of fitness tests were these? Do they do the tests which RP Singh got at Leicestershire and it was found where his muscles were weaker and what exercises did he need to do to strengthen them? We had seen a different RP Singh last May. Will that kind of tests be done here?

Bowlers have assessment session BANGALORE: The bowlers had their assessment session inside the National Cricket Academy while the batsmen underwent medical tests at a nearby hospital during the preparatory camp for India ‘A’ and fringe players here on Friday. Aashish Nehra, Ranadeb Bose, Vijay Kumar and V.R.V. Singh are yet to report to the camp. Meanwhile, injured speedster S. Sreesanth, nursing a left side strain, continued his rehabilitation programme at the academy. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Well, yesterday it said that VRV Singh was present at the camp while today it says that he was absent. What is true? Can we get news from any other source? This is when I really miss an active BCCI site where these kind of information are put up like they do it on CA site!! What kind of assessment did the pace bowlers have? Any news about the results? Glad that at least Sree is following his rehabilitation programme.

Why Israel' date=' of all places ?[/quote'] Yes. I'm quite surprised too at the choice of the country.
is venugopal rao not in this?
No. Don't think he is even in India A squad. India A squad Squad for Israel - Jaydev Shah (capt), Swapnil Asnodkar, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravi Teja, M Vijay, Wriddhiman Saha, Rajat Bhatia, Yogesh Takawale (wk), Rakesh Dhruv, Mohnish Parmar, Vishal Bhatia, Basant Mohanty, Pradeep Sangwan, Ashok Dinda, R Vinay Kumar As for the camp of these players and the ones from Emerging players squad: In the current camp for India ‘A’ and fringe players, the emphasis was on the basics with Mottau Oven, who has coached the likes of Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara, joining the academy as a batting consultant for a period of four months. Injured speedster S. Sreesanth, busy with his rehabilitation programme is expected to be at the academy for some more days. Sreesanth’s left side strain is being constantly monitored by the academy’s support staff.

Can someone throw some light on these India players: Rakesh Dhruv, Basant Mohanty, Vishal Bhatia and even Mohnish Parmar? And what has Jayadev Shah done so far to be selected as the captain of India A side? Is the tournament which is going to take place in Israel, a one day tournament or 3 or 4 day matches are included as well? And why is no newspaper getting time to report about these fringe tournaments? In the meanwhile the camp for India ‘A’ and fringe players is progressing well at the NCA though Ranadeb Bose and V.R.V. Singh are yet to report owing to health and injury concerns. Now in which team have these two bowlers being chosen?

Honour for Badrinath CHENNAI: S. Badrinath won the Bishnuram Medhi Trophy, awarded to the Cricketer of the Year, during the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association’s 78th annual day at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday. Badrinath, who is in Australia for the Emerging Players Tournament, also won the N.N. Suvarna Memorial Trophy for the highest run aggregate in the Ranji Trophy. His father accepted both the awards. TNCA president N. Srinivasan, in his welcome address, drew attention to the association’s work in “taking cricket to rural Tamil Nadu”. Chief guest K. Gnanadesikan, Secretary to Government, Finance Department, hailed the TNCA as a “leading cricket association in the country, with a great past”. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ So players are already in Australia for the tournament which is starting on 14th of this month. I just hope at least cricinfo covers it!

Karnataka has been India's representative since the tournament began in the 2005. The event, starting July 14 in Queensland, will also see two Indian players from the MRF Pace Foundation play for the Australian Institute of Sports (AIS) team for the first time. The two Indians -- Aaron Varun Raymond and Skand Dinesh Vohra -- will join the AIS team as part of its scholarship program. "With the talented list of players we have and the inclusion of the two Indian players from the MRF Pace Foundation we are expecting to see an exciting brand of cricket from this group," AIS team coach Brian McFadyen said. Some of the players who have tasted international success after playing in the Emerging Players Tournament since 2005 are Adam Voges, Ben Hilfenhaus, Luke Ronchi, Shaun Marsh (Australia), Jacob Oram, Shane Bond, Hamish Marshall, Mark Gillespie, Ross Taylor, Peter Fulton, Michael Papps (New Zealand), Neil McKenzie, Robin Peterson (South Africa) and Robin Uthappa (India). Yes, you are! Kirsten was already told by the BCCI that he can't talk/write about the Indian team in terms of match/player analysis on his own personal website. The NCA falling under the control of the BCCI would probably come under the same gag order.

MRF Indian players in Australia Institute squad Two Indian players will represent an Australian Institute of Sport team in the fourth year of the Emerging Players Tournament which begins on July 14 in Queensland. More... Emerging Players Tournament 2008 MRF Indian players in Australia Institute squad Cricinfo staff July 8, 2008 Two Indian players will represent an Australian Institute of Sport team in the fourth year of the Emerging Players Tournament which begins on July 14 in Queensland. Varun Aaron and Skand Dinesh Vohra, of the MRF Pace Foundation, will combine with 13 Australian players, some of whom have first-class experience. While Australia's seniors continue to win, the next layer has not yet won this tournament in four years. AIS team coach Brian McFadyen thinks change is around the corner. "I'm very happy with the quality of this year's team," he said. "The full-time AIS scholars have prepared brilliantly during the initial 12 weeks of the program at the COE which has helped their physical development and skill progression. "With the talented list of players we have and the inclusion of the two Indian players from the MRF Pace Foundation we are expecting to see an exciting brand of cricket from this group. We are really looking forward to putting all the hard work of the last couple of months in to practice with the focus firmly set on tasting success in this tournament which has proved elusive since its inception in 2005." A Twenty20 kicks off the tournament then another provides a hit of relief just before finals day. Each side will play six one-dayers ahead of finals. India have chosen their National Academy Team to replace Karnataka, who had played for the first three years, winning it in the first year. South Africa, who have been victorious for the last two years, will send a side along with New Zealand. AIS squad Liam Davis, Theo Doropoulos, Peter Forrest, Moises Henriques, Michael Hill, Jon Holland, Usman Khawaja, Greg Moller, Dominic O'Brien, Steve O'Keefe, Grant Sullivan, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Aaron Varun Raymond, Skand Dinesh Vohra.

I guess its futile to ask' date=' but would there be ANY chance of watching some of these matches?[/quote'] No. No chance at all of watching these matches. In fact we'll be lucky if cricinfo covers it as it covers the FC matches, ie, periodic updation!

Vengsarkar to watch emerging team perform Down Under Mumbai(PTI): Chief selector Dilip Vengsarkar is to leave for Australia on July 16 to watch the performance of the India A squad in the Emerging Nations tournament in Queensland from July 14-26. Team coach Praveen Amre informed that because of the importance of the tournament, that readies fringe players for the next level of the game, the Cricket Board has decided to send the chief selector "to watch the performance of the players". The India A squad is set to depart for Australia later today to take part in the tournament featuring other teams from the hosts, South Africa and New Zealand in Twenty20 and 50-over games. This would be Vengsarkar's first visit overseas in an official capacity in more than 10 months after returning from England last year following the Indian team's visit. His co-selector Bhupinder Singh has already left for Israel as coach of another team led by Jaydev Shah to take part in three one-day ties against the hosts. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The squad to Australia is: Parthiv Patel (capt), S Badrinath (vice-capt), Ajinkya Rahane, Shikhar Dhawan, Manoj Tiwary, Abhishek Nayar, Virat Kohli, Amit Mishra, Pankaj Singh, Manpreet Gony, Siddharth Trivedi, Dhawal Kulkarni, Iqbal Abdulla, Ravinder Jadeja, Pinal Shah. So who did they name Parthiv's replacement? There is no news anywhere about this and cricinfo is still carrying Parthiv as the skipper. Pinal Shah is another keeper but I suppose the do need to name a first choice replacement. Which other keeper can we consider?
