Buildup to ICC Champions Trophy 2008

I think its BCCI's strategy to keep the defending champions out of the tournament :giggle: Seriously, I dont think Aussies would be comfortable touring pak at the moment. I dont think they should be forced to. In fact its a good opportunity to play some games in Sharjah .. its been a while since any cricket was played in Sharjah !
How I wish your words turns in to reality? Won't matter its played in Sharjah,AbuDhabi or Dubai as long as its played in UAE!

Aust will make a decision on Champions trophy in Pakistan Australian cricket officials said on*Wednesday they coulddecide within a fortnight whether or not to pull out of theChampions Trophy in Pakistan because of security concerns More... Aust will make a decision on Pakistan Jul 9, 2008 Australian cricket officials said on Wednesday they could decide within a fortnight whether or not to pull out of the Champions Trophy in Pakistan because of security concerns. A bomb blast in the Pakistan capital of Islamabad killed 19 people on the night of the Asia Cup final between Sri Lanka and India in Karachi. The International Cricket Council (ICC) responded to the blast by threatening to move the Champions Trophy from Pakistan if there were any further threats of violence. Australia, whose players have long held concerns about touring Pakistan, could preempt an ICC decision and withdraw from the tournament, which starts on September 11. Australian Cricketers' Association chief executive Paul Marsh said the organisation was awaiting reports from a security expert and the Federation of International Cricket Associations. "They're compiling reports which we should have within the next two weeks," Marsh said. "Until you have all the information you can't make a final decision but the concern levels certainly rise whenever there are bombings." Cricket Australia was also expected to make a decision within the next two weeks, spokesman Peter Young said. Australia have not toured Pakistan since 1998 due to concerns about security.

Yousuf unavailable for Champions Trophy too: sources According to sources, Mohammad Yousuf had two months back informed the PCB and the selection committee that he would not be available for selection during Ramzan. More... Yousuf unavailable for Champions Trophy too: sources Press Trust Of India Karachi, July 14, 2008 First Published: 20:38 IST(14/7/2008) Last Updated: 20:57 IST(14/7/2008) Pakistan's preparations for the Champions Trophy suffered another setback on Monday with senior batsman Mohammad Yousuf also making himself unavailable for the tournament owing to his religious inclinations. Sources close to the selectors told PTI that Yousuf had two months back informed the Board and the selection committee that he would not be available for selection during Ramzan. Ramazan this year will fall between September 3 and October 3 while the Champions Trophy is to be held from the September 11-28. "Yes, he did tell the selectors he didn't want to be disturbed during Ramazan as he was committed to some religious activities," one source said. "He (Yousuf) said he would not be available for the Champions Trophy for this reason," he added. But the source said Yousuf's request not to be picked for the mini-world cup was another reason for the announcement of the 30-member preliminary squad which will now be released on Tuesday. "Besides the Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif issues, the selectors are also trying to get in touch with Yousuf who is in London to try to convince him to change his mind. "The selectors are hopeful, Yousuf would be convinced once they speak to him," he added. The source revealed that after the positive dope test of Asif, the selectors had decided to pick a rookie young pacer Mohammad Ali, who hails from Faisalabad and is presently training in the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. "As far as Shoaib Akhtar is concerned, the selectors have pinned him down in their probables list but the Board has to give the final approval," the source said.

Just wondering why M.Goni was not given a chance in Bengalistan Kit-Kat series. He is well built, bowls with right pace and has decent line and control, he could have proved economical at times. Dhoni should try him in future.
Gony will not get a chance, doubt it, with too many semaers in and cuming the likes of sangwan and mishra and others will be put ahead instead of goni, though it would be good seeing him

New Zealand to play three warm-up matches in Pakistan The New Zealand cricket team will play three limited-overs matches in Pakistan in the leadup to September's Champions Trophy tournament. More... New Zealand to play three warm-up matches in Pakistan Wellington, New Zealand (AP): The New Zealand cricket team will play three limited-overs matches in Pakistan in the leadup to September's Champions Trophy tournament. A New Zealand Cricket spokesman said on Wednesday that dates and venues for the matches, likely to be played in the last week of August and the first week of September, would be confirmed when existing security concerns had been addressed. The International Cricket Council is expected on Sunday to release a new security report on the staging of the Champions Trophy in Pakistan. The tournament could be postponed or moved to Sri Lanka if a threat is perceived. NZC spokesman Steve Addison said his organization was working with New Zealand team members, their players' association, New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other bodies to address security issues. Addison said no New Zealand player yet had made himself unavailable for the tour on security grounds.

Champions Trophy could go to England Ahead of the International Cricket Council's meeting to decide on the security arrangements for the Champions Trophy in Pakistan, England are now being tipped to be the stand-by hosts for the event. Although the first report on the security by ICC's agents confirmed Pakistan's status as safe, many countries have cast their doubts and are apprehensive of touring the strife-torn nation. The Australian has learnt that South Africa, who were initially thought to be the back-up venue, may not be able to host the event on such a short notice (Champions Trophy scheduled from September 11-28) as it will be in the beginning of their cricketing season. England on the other hand are currently hosting South Africa for a full Test and One-day series and have begun preparations for next year's Twenty20 World Championships. The eight Test-playing countries, who will participate in the competition, will meet with the ICC board on Sunday in Dubai. Even though the recently concluded Asia Cup, played between six countries, went incident-free, bomb blasts in Islamabad and Karachi have caused some concern among the ICC. Pakistan are likely to get backing from the rest of the sub-continent which includes India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, but players from Australia and England have already put forth their fears, saying they are unlikely to tour the country.
