Tendulkar should have quit after the Aussie tour just like VVS and dravid. Dhoni's shenanigans are way too bigger to write in this thread. Seeni maams overruled a selector decision to keep him as a captain. In that case they both were treated bigger than the game. India had lost many seniors at the same time and team was in transition. Sachin had averaged 78 in 2010 and 47 in 2011 so his form was good enough Both Kohli and Rohit swear that playing with Sachin in the middle is what helped them ease into international cricket and took the pressure of with all the seniors retiring at same time. Meanwhile Sanga and Lara retired at their personal peak with no transition and both SL and WIs batting collapsed and never recovered A player doesn't need to retire immediately just because you really really hate them so will create false equivalence Sachin and one of the LEAST hanging on period after losing form of any player in history. Ponting continued for 6 years of poor form before retiring because his team was transitioning. Numbers don't lie and is greater than your "feelings". Edited November 6, 2024 by New guy

Sachin has one of the LEAST hanging on after losing form from any team . Ponting for example sucked for almost 6 years before retiring. If you call out Sachin you call out 99% of players in the world. It completely dilutes any criticism against people like Kohli who have been hanging for 5+ years. Doesn't matter. He overstayed his welcome. Stayed well beyond and we lost a home series to england for the first time in 28 years in 2012. Don't care if you or anyone else agree with my opinion. I think it's your feelings that has been hurt here. His average dropped by 3++ points. We lost 8 test matches away in england and Australia. Lost a home series to england after 3 decades. That is enough reason to be dropped with age not on his side and I'm going to call that out. Form is form and I will judge every player by that metric. Edited November 7, 2024 by Stan AF
Stan AF Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 Point is he overstayed his welcome to play the magical number of 200 test matches. He diluted his own legend by staying on in 2012 and 2013.

And no test 100 after that for a good 3 year period until his retirement in November 2013. Plus the whole farce of his 100th 100 . OMG .we lost that odi game to Bangladesh as well. Nikhil_cric Posted November 7, 2024 Posted November 7, 2024 0-8 would have happened with or without SRT. Zaheer and Harbhajan were done. We were never picking 20 wickets. And SRT playing for 15-16 months in ODIs didn't hurt the ODI team either. Dhoni had already declined to be a negative impact player from 2014 and from the end of CT2017 to World Cup semis was a massive , match losing fraud . SandeepMotta 1
