Two innings tests

A brainstorming thread to evaluate the scope of two innings (currently 4 innings) tests where: 

 

* Each team gets to bat for 1 inning (not the current two).

* 3-4 days allocated for the test

* No toss - the visiting team gets to decide whether it bowls or bats first

Okay here we go.. We restrict the number of overs each team can play, to lets say 50.. and make sure the game is over on the same day so the pitch won't change too much between the innngs..

I know you are indicating that there are ODIs already where there are 2 innings, but here we are talking about no over restrictions where a team can extend its inning for as long as it likes. The team batting 2nd has the option to win or draw.

The pitches have to be flat or else most games will not reach day 3. I'm guessing teams batting first will be extra defensive since the par score cannot be guessed that easily

As there is no toss with the visiting team deciding what it wants to do, the home sides would be encouraged to make decent pitches. 
 

Also batting first teams have to be tactical as they would want to put the other team when they can get a few overs in the final session of a day and then bowl in the morning session when the ball could do relatively more.

Love the idea of touring team to decide what to do. No toss. Will make it more competitive
