India needs threatening spells like this...

People always view players from a previous generation through rose tinted spectacles. There is a reference to Ishant as a comparator. When Ishant played his first test In Australia ( his 3rd overall), he went for 146 runs in 23 overs - over 6 an over plus he had no wickets. If ICF had been around then, people would have been demanding his immediate dumping from that series and the recall of Kapil Dev and Srinath.

Harshit currently is at an even earlier stage in his career.

India needs batters who can score runs. India needs seniors who actually perform and are not in the side without doing anything for more than 5 years. India needs players who don't walk into the team just because they're anointed captain for lifetime.

Eventually bowlers will run out of steam when batters can't even last 50 overs on Day 1 of a Test. Bowlers performed a miracle in  the 1st Test but expecting them to do it time and again is unrealistic. If we had even managed to score 270-280, which wasn't asking for much at Adelaide, bowlers would've won us the match. But getting bowled out consistently for 150-180 isn't gonna win you much no matter how great your bowling is.

It is what it is in Indian cricket, we have selectors who can't even get the basic selection right, even the fans who follow the sport know Sai Sudharshan is a much better pick than Paddikal, if the selectors cannot even get such basics right what else to expect.. which batsman is in the squad who can do well Sarfaraz, Paddikal :dontknow:

Indeed, young bowlers hit these roadblocks often in the unknown conditions. Problem is we are wired to jump the gun and put blame of bowlers.

Shami has had his poor series in NZ, England and Australia during his first tour. Same Shami is now an exceptional bowler for us and is classified as an Indian great.

Our bowling is fine. It's lack of runs from batters which is making the difference. They can neither stay at the crease and eat up balls nor score runs. And then the blame falls on bowlers. Batters couldn't do shyte over the last decade and the blame for 0 ICC tourneys fell on bowling. Same story here as well when it's our bowling who've kept us competitive over the last decade.

Take out Bumrah and Shami and we probably compete with likes of SL and WI. But let's suck off "King" Kohli and "Hitman" Rohit who haven't made any difference whatsoever. They need to take a look at Travis Head to see what an actual batsman who makes a difference looks like.

So true. I always rated Sai Sudarshan high and would've added him to the Test and ODI setup by now. I would kick out Kohli and Rohit and play Jurel and Sarfaraz in their place. Sarfaraz still needs his chance. He performed in domestic and hasn't played even a single game here. He deserves to play ahead of both Rohit and Kohli.

Or the other option is to go with Jurel as a replacement for Rohit, replace Kohli with Akash Deep (you'll get the same output in batting and actual support for Bumrah and pacers), and replace Ashwin with Sundar (better batsman and similar bowler in Aus).

Under Bumrah, the team will look different as they know the captain deserves to lead the team, and is not someone who got into the team just like Arjun Tendulkar got into the MI squad.

Absolutely. Plus bowlers also need a captain who can guide them through wicket taking strategies for every batsman and set appropriate fields so they can operate to a specific plan. Rohit is badly exposed on this time and again. The bottom line is that young bowlers are a resource available to the captain. It is upto him to utilise them effectively. It involves more than just throwing the ball to different bowlers and asking them to start a spell while he parks himself at slip as an observer. Ben Stokes is an example of a captain with the opposite approach. His personal form is arguably equally mediocre these days but he is always actively involved with his young bowlers geeing them on and working on bowling plans.

I like the Jurel and Sundar option, and Reddy needs to move up the order at 6, can't have him bat lower and than run out of partners everytime. He is looking more comfortable and solid than most of the frontline batsman.

Just like always, our youngsters and newbies look the best players away while we carry passengers in the name of "experience".

From Bhuvi, Ishant, Umesh, Shami, Bumrah we have downgraded to Siraj, Rana, Mukesh, Prasidh, Khalil. Thats a huge downgrade. Club level backups.

Reminder that we literally won the series last time, and the last match with a bowling attack of siani, natrajan, thakur, Sundar and siraj. Bumrah wasn't even available in the crucial matches.

Siraj was instrumental in our last series win and our last match win in australia which many of the bowlers you named never did.

Bowling is NOT the problem. It's our superstar batsmen failing for 5+ years and destroying the balance.

It's very convenient to blame the youngsters after every loss, but there has been one and only one common factors in all our losses, our pampered superstar batsmen

If Kohli and Rahul and Rohit had played all 5 matches last time, we would have lost that series too

Have the guts to blame the real culprits instead of youngsters with barely any experience or those playing their debut series. Kohli sucked ass after his first English tour, by your logic he would have been club level too.

What bullshit.

Kohli and Rohit are nothing but negatives to this team.

They contribute nothing but downfall to Indian Team.

Kohli has been useless since 2020-21. Rohit was never a red ball batsman to begin with. He was good enough in subcontinent pitches.

Rohit's test career reminds me of Yuvraj. Brilliant white ball player who has been persisted with in red ball purely on reputation and has severely underachieved. At least, selectors were honest about Yuvi's red ball performance and dropped him.

But this guy Rohit is a blood sucker.

If Yuvi was pandered to as much as Hitman, the former may have done better than his current stats
