Thoughts on the debacle of NZ and Australia series

Obvious things

1. Rohit is finished as a batsman and as a captain.

2. Kohli is fit and can still salvage something but his issues are more mental ego and don't think it is technical. Either way his contribution has been bad

Let's not bad mouth players as I don't believe they don't care. It's up to selectors to drop players...a player will always try to score century and go out on a high even though the body might be betraying.

Now what are the stupid decisions India took that made us lose the Aus series

We lost the series because of our bowling. We have been defensive and have chosen only three bowlers and other than Bumrah no one is in form. Our batting and Aus batting are equally abysmal but  our bowling apart from Bumrah has been crap.

Choose the 4 best bowlers and one AR.

Thats where we lost the game. We have out of form batsmen but so does Aussies..they came back to form. But khwaja Smith labushangne and Marsh..are all out of form.

Assuminng we can't drop Sharma ji and Kohli ...we could still have won if we chose a better bowling attack

Jaiswal

Rohit

Rahul

Kohli

Pant

Gill

Jadeja/Washington/Reddy

Ashwin/Rana

Akashdeep

Bumrah

Prasidh

And Siraj is neither our fourth or third pacer..

Test matches are won by taking 20 wickets. Of course Siraj being useless and Akash being unlucky doesn't help ..so it could just be quality but team selection with so many bits and pieces players is a recipe for disaster...Reddy as good as a batsman os..is not a test class bowlers and neither is Washington. They are both a fifth bowler or sixth bowler at best and should be the batting ar.

as long as Rohit and Kohli were playing, we weren't going to win either series, even with better bowling selections. In these 2 series, we were playing with only 9 players. It's like playing in footer with 9 players instead of 11 - one cannot win matches against teams of roughly similar capabilities.

I don't disagree but Australia also had smith khwaja labu marsh mcaweeney not in form..so I guess that kind of cancels it out

Kohli is as done as Rohit. His reflexes are shot and mentally he's not there anymore. For him getting to a 30 itself is a huge achievement, forget scoring 100s which are required from specialist batters. We couldn't have won with 2 passengers - playing with one is doable but having 2 passengers in the team is too much deadweight to overcome.

Nope it doesn't. Labuschagne and Khawaja still have performed much better than our seniors. And McSweeney was replaced. Marsh is more of an insurance policy similar to Reddy for us. Difference is that Aussie seniors stood up. Look at Smith who has managed to score 2 100s and both when the match was in balance. An dthen look at our seniors who're worse than tailenders.

Even on current form, Smith is better than any of our batters barring Jaiswal/Pant. And having Travball Head has been a massive boost for Aus

Look at Labuschagne. The guy is going through horrible form and still manages to play 50+ deliveries an innings and scored crucial 50s. Our so called Kings can't even match an out of form Labuschagne, forget Smith or Head.

that's why they are kings. such kings don't want to spend much time with commoners. Kohli has already become a British resident and Fatman will move to US soon - the buffet and food portion sizes suit him.

I can totally see Rohit gulp down US sized portions and at "all you can eat" buffet places

yeah, he is already a fat uncle, but after moving to US and adopting the US lifestyle, he will quickly become The Fat(test) Uncle

paying the inevitable prize of  allowing proven inadequacies in rohit, rahul etc etc for  too long. By the time these 2 played some 45 inns , both should have been kicked out

of the team and  other youngsters  tried.

BCCI have set the team back several years already thanks to such selections.

We haven't hit rock bottom yet. Let's wait till Sydney.

if only it had been a 6-test series. we would have seen Bumrah bowling at 120-125 in 6th test due to him being destroyed

I agree his returns have been as poor as Rohit...but he had a recent 100 and was looking sublime in Melbourne...I don't think Rohit is capable to play these kind of innings every now and then at current stage .drop both I would agree with you on that

"sublime" is overstating it massively. that was a tentative 30 where he had plays and misses, and his running was shaky even before the runout occurred.

That's what I'm saying they were equally out of form but came back to our form due to poor bowling poor selections and poor field placement ...unlike our batsmen

NZ 0-3 was rock bottom, but the TM just ignored it like nothing happened.

This series is not exactly a "debacle" though.

Australia are simply a much better Test match team than our overrated garbage currently and they're playing at home. No matter what team we field and what tactics we use, we had pretty much no chance to win a 5 match long series against a much better side.

we always had 3 non-contributing seniors, of whom 1 is also a very poor captain.

in contrast, aus had only 1 true passenger in Marsh. hence, it was a battle of 8 vs 10 players. if we had better selection, we could have beaten this Oz side or at least drawn the series 2-2.
