4th innings batting

I think we are being over critical of our bowlers for not defending in 4th innings.  It turns out batting becomes uber easy these days due to the watering , how much grass they allow. SOmetimes batting becomes easier as the match progresses. In WTC final Markram absolutely had no chalenge whatsoever from Australian bowling.This was the case only in NZ before. But oflat 4th innings totals ar easier to hunt down. We somehow expect our bowlers to run through deep batting line ups on these wickets. Remember the 5th test against England by day 2 batting became a lot easier.

Why doesn't this apply when we bat in 4th innings? If things were so easy, we shouldn't crap our pants chasing sub 200, 150 scores, right?

Yea.. i think this team will in the coming days look much better.  That old unit was repeatedly failing in 4th innigs for very long time. This is a completely new set up. So i will give them some time. Already pulled off a great draw. We had some "common things" in those messed up chases.

More of a case of strategy then mentality. They don't know how to pace the chases. Last match was thrown away by being aggressive against new ball when everyone knew it will be easy to bat with old ball

I don't know man, this issue has been plaguing us ever since I started following cricket. Even our highly reputed Fab 4/5 team floundered so many easy chases. Pooks have a better 4th innings record despite their batters being nowhere close to ours in ability.

Address this 4th innings problem seriously, from memory it has cost us 4-5 series victories in SENA in last 20-25 years. I am not talking about mega chases, even 200-300 range should be chasable in modern era. RSA perfected this in their 2006-15 phase, and even today are pretty good.
