If modi has ego he would put counter-measure tariffs on the USA. Even if they had a limited impact it would be posturing.

Modi has chosen not to take any action. There is no call to boycott US products (which would also be stupid to do so).

U..S. has no alternative to India in diamonds, say industry leaders

Industry estimates show that the U.S. alone accounts for more than 30% of India’s gem and jewellery exports, making it the single-largest overseas buyer

I expect the 50% to be pushed back or made sector-specific like oil or something.

Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal on August 14 said that the government is working on “four strategy pillars”, including fast-tracking of free trade agreements (FTAs) with the UK and European Union to improve export competitiveness amid higher US tariffs on Indian exports, PTI reported.

The other pillars are promoting ease of doing business, export diversification (products and markets), and import diversification, Barthwal said.

What India needs to keep growing is a crisis. Our mentality is such that unless our hand is forced, we will go with the status quo. I have also said this to my European friends. Trump attacks your flaws. It forces you to reform and gain in the long term. Trump 100% correct on the lack of spending on defence. To be point, Western Europe cant even put up a 100k army in Ukraine.
