Some more SU57 news. I think we should take atleast 2 squadrons as a backup.

I want Su57 as well.

AMCA isnt gonna come in before 2036-37.

Rafales will start coming in from 2030...and Su57 maybe even earlier. We need to bridge 7-8 years of capability gap.

I think once AL51 engine is ready, Su57 will move ahead. Current AL-41 isnt what IAF wants as it offer little improvement over AL-31 used in Su30MKI.

It's better to take the AL-41 as well too. Take that engine for the upgrades to Su30MKI and then take the Su57 with AL-51.

Good news indeed.

If you read reports usa is actively looking at manufacturing outside usa (koreans look likely to build 20 to 30% of us navy ships in the near decade).

Javelin is low tech enough for usa not to be worried but need a cheap n cheerful missile. India comes into play.

I heard the c130 program too was looking at india.

Likes of israel and european powers too will look at manufacture in india to keep costs low.

C130J is the lead runner, but its payload capacity is just 18 Ton....so it wont be able to airlift Zorawar tank.

C390 is faster and can be reused as a fuel tanker if need arises. It can carry Zorawar tank as it has wider dimensions.

A400M was best of both worlds....but it was damn expensive. Hence its out of race as IAF has a limit of 30 Ton.

AL 41 has same engine reliability issue is what I read.

Its overhaul time is very short, and just like Su30MKI...the fleet readiness at any given time will be only 50-55%.

Both IAF & Navy are frustrated with Mig29s...thats why Rafale is getting so much attention. Even Mirage 2000 are a solid workhorse than Mig29s

Wasnt c130 used to transfer artillary?

Agts and dhanush should be fine.

Al41 works well with su35. Was not right fit for su57.

Su35 remains the best russian export.

AL41 offers twice the run time than AL31. Surely worth considering.

This is for retrofitting su30MKI to make it better than the Su35. In quite a lot of aspects , the Su30MKI is a better jet than the 35 except for the engine.

AtAGS weighs around 18 Ton, C130J may not be able to lift it. Even MARG with 4x4 truck also weighs 18 Ton.

Zorawar, WhAP & MARG with 4×4 truck fits right into the weight limit of C390. Need to see how it works during high altitude take off when air is light and engine capacity is 70%.

C130J being turboprop can takeoff from shorter runways, but that compromises with its speed. C390 need longer runways as it has jet engine, but is gives faster speeds and shorter travel time.

Key player will the DBO airstrip. That will decide which is selected. C130J has a massive advantage there.

IAF rejected the overhaul of replacing Su30MKI engine to AL41 and are prioritising Su30MKI upgrade in avionics and RAM coating.

Not sure if its the budget as constraint, coz AL41 may not offer supercruise.

If they want to go ahead with it, then timelines should be strictly followed and costs should be managed around the delivery timeline.

We made a big mistake last time around.

We arent in position of having a budget be a constraint. Especially when we have two hostile neighbours.

Our R&D folks at HAL are just plain lazy and risk averse. The sooner we buy that technology out right and phase out the dinosaurs at HAL , the better.

HAL needs to be revamped from the top down approach. Too many people lying back and being desk job jockeys because there's no pressure on them. All the whole while when our AF is crying out for 5th gen fighters.

I agree we need 4 and 4.5 gen aircrafts as well but HAL needs to be restricted only to finish the Tejas first.

Split HAL into various divisions based on priority. Remove the heads first of all and get in top rated Russian developers as consultants / architects if need be.

No other private sector company would have such laggards in their core team. Why is the issue of National defense being given to HAL and their uncle's ?

I think we should be asking Russia for TOT next for the S400. Considering Russia is going in for the S500. We need more squadrons and can't rely on Russia to delay.

Project Kusha is going to be better than S400.. even S400 core radars are outdated compared to what we will unleash with Kusha.

This is probably a stop gap until Project Kusha matures in next decade.

Putin seems desparate for easy cash...  I don't think GoI will fall for it again.  Beyond S400 and Su30MKI upgrades we won't spend a penny on Russian systems.  Su57 is strictly subject to mood in US admin and in general diminished Russian fighter jet productivity.

Paying Jaziya to West is a profitable venture atp than filling Putin's pocket.

Upgrade of kilo class submarine seems out of equation to me.

There is no option to fit AIP in it...and after Varunastra our torpedo tech is as good as anyone.

Additional S400 is fine, coz Kusha will take some time to mass produce and gain operational maturity. But S500 Prometheus, unless PAD & AAD arent functional, then only we should go for it.

Super Sukhoi upgrade is also an indigenous program.

Su57 & S400 are the only viable options ij my opinion.

One key thing absent here is the lease of Chakra SSN...not sure why no news. Our P77 is heavily inspired by Russian SSN.

Su57s success depend heavily on India.

Although, I would like India to join hands for IL476 & SJ100 program as well

They wont attract risk of CAATSA and keep Russia afloat.

Su57, IAF wont go for it unless Russia offers ToT with twin pilot variant (and also AL51).

Although, everything will go for toss if China offers its 5th gen fighter jet to Pooks.
