Lord Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 You ever heard of a night watchman? yeah but indians dont use it ,its a strategy thing.it doesnt vary from player to player.wen was the last time india used it?
Sachinism Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Night watchman is important to protect other batsmen and it could help frustrate the opposition if the watchman manages to hang in there
Lord Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Night watchman is important to protect other batsmen and it could help frustrate the opposition if the watchman manages to hang in there why dont the 'other' batsman protect themselves? if they r playing test cricket they should be good enuf to do that
Sachinism Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Because that batsman has nothing to gain from batting a few minutes at night
Dinx - the Jinx Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 cos dhoni doesn't want to sweat out a few minutes in the middle, so that he can go out with his date smelling fresh
gs Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Night watchman is a good ploy. If he can hang in there till the end of the day and also for a few mins the next morning till the sun beats down and dries up the track, the other 'recognized' batsmen can take advantage of it.
DomainK Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Night watchman is important to protect other batsmen and it could help frustrate the opposition if the watchman manages to hang in there Because that plays in the mind of the opposition. They dont go to sleep thinking that one more wicket and we are into the tail.
Lord Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Because that batsman has nothing to gain from batting a few minutes at night but he has the best chance to survive the night.suppose the night watchman gets out early ,the recognized batsman wud still have to come in at night
Lord Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 cos dhoni doesn't want to sweat out a few minutes in the middle' date=' so that he can go out with his date smelling fresh[/quote'] :giggle:
rahulrulezz Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 but he has the best chance to survive the night.suppose the night watchman gets out early ' date='the recognized batsman wud still have to come in at night[/quote'] dude u seriously need to know the concept of Nightwatchman... some of you take players for granted... we lost SL test series coz Dhoni wasnt there... your constant criticism of Dhoni is irritating.. Dhoni is one of very few gems we have produced after Sachin... won us World Cup, series in Australia and numerous matches
vsd2006 Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 I agree, if there was anybody who could get us close to get that GB trophy back, it is MSD and certainly not Anil Dumble.
flamy Posted October 18, 2008 Author Posted October 18, 2008 Gets the last wicket of the day by commanding Mishra to bowl around the wicket. Total respect to Mishra for bowling the googly.
Sachinism Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 ^^ yeh a big plus on that part downer for MSD today was the way he batted with the tail, showed no faith in them
SachDan Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Gets the last wicket of the day by commanding Mishra to bowl around the wicket. Total respect to Mishra for bowling the googly. one brilliant piece of captaincy :hatsoff:
flamy Posted October 18, 2008 Author Posted October 18, 2008 one brilliant piece of captaincy :hatsoff: account hacked brah?
Dooks Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Goodish captaincy - much better than Kumble for starters. Bad points - 1. Drop catches. So what is the difference between him and PP/KD wicket keeping wise? since no one breaks wind when he misses the catches but are on the PP/KD's back as soon as they miss a single catch. He has missed 3 catches so far in this test series (Hussey proving a very costly one). We could have one the last match if he had taken the catch then. This time again he misses Hussey and it is proving costly already but hopefully won't make any difference. HE HAS TO IMPROVE otherwise .... 2. doesn't try other bowlers for few overs when things are not happing. For example, he could have tried Motu for few overs today to give the useless git a break. (May be even give Dada an over or two if necessary). In fact, AK also underbowled Motu. Motu could be a our 3rd spinner or even 2nd when we have to play three seamers. Good points. 1. Knows where to set the field. Is very aggressive captain fielding wise. 2. Suggest's ideas to the bowlers. 3. Improved his batting no end (at least today). Overall - he could improve but better than Anlbhai.
