India is one country where everyone is jealous of the other if the other looks rich. While everyone disrespects the other if other looks poor. Edited August 28 by singhvivek141 Lord 1

The British tried too, although they did at least succeed in abolishing Sati. So how do you get rid of andh vishwas (blind faith) and purush pooja (person worship)? There are so many self-proclaimed and fraudulent “saints” in India. It’s repulsive and frankly vomit-inducing. Politicians benefit from it, so they have little incentive to challenge it. In fact, many actively encourage it because they love being treated like demigods. Perhaps we should ask ourselves, is Hinduism inherently a pagan religion or have its original philosophical and spiritual traditions been hijacked and distorted by an increasingly illiterate and superstitious populace and by political movements such as the RSS or Nihangs or Chrsitian missionaries that exploit these tendencies? The British tried too, although they did at least succeed in abolishing Sati. Sati wasnt part of original culture. Although there are some records that a women used to leave the body along with her husband's death, but that was "iccha mrityu" ...not forced. It creeped up after the Uzbek & Turkic invasion...where a widowed women was started to be seen as a "burden" for the society, which has to be taken care of by their family....British didnt abolish it out of goodwill, they considered it as an asset to put additional people into manual labour and extract the effort out of it with minimum wages. Anyway the solution to it is complex...India's biggesf problem is division amongst people on basis of caste, religion, language. 1. Flexibility of changing a caste should be allowed, in Varna system it was possible. A person has no control over his place/family of birth...he should be given a second chance if he wants to change. Thats why "Brahmins" were called as "dwij" or "second life"...they can leave their past and become a Brahmin. Maharishi Valmiki is a prime example. 2. Education system needs a reform. Moral Science and tool based learning should be part of syllabus. Instead of just going the usual...Math's, Biology, Arts, Commerce.. there should also be a stream to focus on advanced computer system and other skilled work from 11th standard itself. Give the kids options from teenage itself to make a decision for themselves and own the outcome without cribbing. 3. Make one or two language as official, and they should be accepted by every state govt. along with their state language. When regional sentiments take over it often overlaps on the national sentiment. 4. Expand economy and control populations...India has so many people but limited economy. Everyone thinks that other has taken his share of wealth which they are entitled for. Be it land, gold, assets...which are the prime factors. Lesser population will cause less fight for the resources. 5. Govt should stay away from the business of generating jobs. Exceot few key sectors...like Defence, Police, Railways etc...privatise the others and stay away from job generation. If needed, give some schemes/rebate to the ones in need for education and Healthcare...but otherwise dont poke nose in the matters of jobs. Let the public earn their place out of their own hard work and not by the donations. There will be more...and these will take a minimum of 50 years to show the result on the ground. We have been choking ourselves for good 800 odd years...50 years is quite a reasonable time to transform ourselves. Edited August 28 by singhvivek141

In a conflict between two, irrespective of who is at fault, the one who appears wealthier is the oppressor.
