Did the opposition miss a trick by choosing to chase after winning the toss in both knockout matches?

First of all, congratulations to the team on winning the tournament.

 

Some analysts were discussing whether batting first and putting up a total of around 230–240 could have created real scoreboard pressure on India in a high-stakes knockout match? . Instead, both teams opted to chase.

 

Especially England, who came within touching distance of India’s target of around 250 in the semi-final. One could argue that if England had chosen to bat first after winning the toss, they might have posted a similar total to what they eventually scored while chasing or at least something in the 230–240 range. In that scenario, the scoreboard pressure would have shifted to India instead.

 

Do you think that decision played into India’s hands, or would India have been comfortable chasing a target in that range anyway? Especially chasing 230-240+ against England.  

 

India failed during their chase against SA and even against West indies it was not a smooth ride for them. Do you think England batting first could have made the contest more difficult for India?

I think lsdt 16 d/n knockout matches there was a skew towards chasing.

 

Was the right call. This was a 200 to 210 deck.

Teams these days specially in Ind give themselves a good chance of chasing 200-220 in t20is. Dew is a big factor to it.

 

230+ score is where its out of hand, as a team winning the toss one would want to make most of it and play on their strengths , i.e. using the dew and chasing.

Ind has chased 200+ target 7 times most by any team, so 200 is not a safe target to set. As a batting unit batting 1st vs Ind (in such form) you are putting your batters in lot of pressure of scoring 230+ and having a big chance of folding out under 190 or even below that.

 

So you want to take your chances say stopping Ind 220 ish and may be below and chasing it down. No team is looking to chase down 230. Bethell kept hitting/swinging without getting caught and string up good quick partnerships but no1 other than him got 35 or more runs.

 

Such innings mostly goes how Seifert kind of innings where batters one batter start hitting but from other end batters start getting out and after quick 50-60 batter also gets out , Bethell kind of innings does not happen, specially after the fall of 3 wkts.

Chasing was the right call! Pitches at these venues get better to bat under lights at night. It's just that we scored above-par in both semi-final and final. Had we scored a par score of around 210 we would've lost. Kudos to our batters for batting opponents out of the game but had I won the toss at these venues I would've bowled first as well, especially in Ahmedabad.

They wanted to replicate their performance against SA. Restrict Ind to under 200 and chase in a canter. Forgot that Bumrah is >>>>> All SA Bowlers + Axar + 255 + Allen/Seifert had scored more than 48% of Kiwi Score in the tournament+ couldnr really recover from epic phainta

I felt the same, especially yesterday. 210-215 would have been a challenging target for us to chase. But the reputation of this team is what made the opposition hesitate to bat first. Yesterday, when the toss happened, a majority of ICF posters were not happy with us batting first, considering the dew factor.
