On the flip-side, I find it really easy to have casual chats with Americans or go out have a fun lunch with them. What is that supposed to mean?

That probably means that you are comfortable with people who either do not put their nose in other people's business or even if they do it is more trying to come across as being polite rather than getting in details. The conversation with an American chap is invariably different to that with an Indian chap. Or going out for example. With an American you have options to go anywhere, with an Indian you will invariably end up at an Indian place. I dont see it as right or wrong really. At the end of the day you should do what your heart desires and not follow trend simply because someone is from your country.

Here's one for the Biharis... :D A guy I know, a Bihari himself, openly lamented about the less number of Biharis who go abroad for their career. He said Biharis 'Are not adventuruous and career-minded as people from the South are. They prefer to stay in their villages and towns and carry on with their usual lives' Sorry for hijacking the thread, but I felt it had run its course. :D

The other day I had to give my car for some repair and maintanence service. The Repairshop offered me a ride back to work and later pick up when the car was done. So in a strict manner it wasnt entirely a cab ride but probably quite similar and close. Anyway the driver turned out to be a royal bohemian. He happened to be originally from Wisconsin(Milwaukee) and had lived in the state for 40 years before he moved to Arizona 5 years or so ago. I personally had lived in Milwaukee for a few years and turned out the apartment complex I stayed in was right next to his house. Plus this chap happened to be in construction and every little mall, theatre, office that was erected in that particular town bore his mark one way or the other. Needless to say it made for a fascinating conversation. His story in AZ was probably even more fascinating. Since he had been in construction for over 4 decades it was only natural to move up the ladder into Real Estate. AZ, about 5 years or so back, was one of the most booming states thanks to its weather and location. So he made millions in a couple of years. Then became a full time broker in one of the posh areas of Phoenix. Was again making good money(worked for Prudential) and was all set to retire when he gets cheated by his own fellow broker(atleast thats the story), gets blackballed by Real Estate Agency of AZ, has to go bankrupt to pay the money he owes and is now back on the street driving people around at 8$ an hour. The most fascinating thing was that he was not at all embarassed or defensive about it. Laughed and giggled about it even though I am sure it must hurt a lot.

That's the attitude I am sure due to social gliterrati pretentions ostentations similar case in india will end up committing suicide..
