Who is most likely to break Lara's 400?

I dont think too many have it in them to score those many runs. You need favorable conditions, a captain willing to let you play that long ignoring the results and luck. But of course along with that you need loads and loads of talent and patience. I would love to watch Sachin achieve that, but I dont think he will. Sachin concentrates very hard while playing and its humanly impossible to keep that kind of concentration for that long. A small lapse and you are gone. On the other hand, Viru plays with a relaxed mind and a laid back attitude and faces the bowlers with a 'I dont care who you are' attitude. He can play big shots with ease, can play very long innings and can score runs at a very fast pace. I am sure he is the most likely of all the players in the world to cross the magic figure. From India may be Laxman has a chance when he gets his eye in. He is another one who scores fast very naturally. I dont think any other current Indian test batsman has a chance in that. Hayden came pretty close that to that. In fact after Lara, he got the closest to 400. He can do it again. But he does not have too many years left in him now. Ricky Ponting has his weaknesses, and the fact that he never got a 300 even while playing for such a strong side is not very encouraging. Mahela Jayawardene got as far as 374 once. I would have put some hopes in Jayasuriya, but he is too old now. Who else do you think can or may do it?

Kumar Sangakara on sl wickets or may be against England in England has good oppurtunity. English attack breaks down easily once someone start scoring well against them, so it can be possible eitiher at home for sangakkara or in England. for India, may be Sehwag laxman, well he comes pretty late so i don't think he has any chance.

Hayden has close to zero chance - he is not a big innings player. Most of his hundreds are below 150 and that 380 was a real aberration for someone who has just 1 more 200+ and only 4 more 150+ scores.

======== NONE ======= The 400 and 500 will for ever belong to Lara what with games beng cut short. Twenty years from now I suppose the test cricket will have been reduced to 3 days or 4 days at the most.

sehwag. he scores his runs so quickly that the team wont even be thinking of declaration when sehwag would have reached 400. it wont take sehwag more than 4 sessions to reach 400

his last 300 came off only 278 balls. and 4 sessions means 120 overs. in 120 overs(720 balls), a batsman will get to face 360 balls provided he stays there. and sehwags strike-rate, improves when he plays long innings, so if he is making a 400 in tests, 360 balls would be enough for sehwag to make 400, thats y i said sehwag wont take more than 4 sessions to make 400
