Virat was much more brutal with his decisions early in his Test captaincy In his final phase as captain he became noticeably softer

But that was mostly for batting reasons. That was not a shocking call back then. Because India could not afford two spinners overseas back then. Some of them were stupid like sitting him out and playing Karn sharma. Bhajji was washed up long back. Should have never played that long.

But that trend didn't start under kohli. MSD captained 14 SENA tests since Ashwin made debut. Ashwin was left out in 7 matches.

It is our mistake to follow this crap lol I looked up every individual. They are all Ranji stat performers of 2026.  Here is an example. Eden Apple Tom and Nidheesh both play for smae state. They went with one who had better stat. That's it.

It was his 1st ipl season , alot of players struggle in 1st season. He was 3/4th top run getter in Smat this season.

 

good to see him scoring runs but the bowling is not that good so can not say if those a good score or not. but he is someone who can play along the ground, can play both off and leg side, based on smat performance decent vs bouncers

Also chepauk is a lot better for batting. I expect SZ to do well as well. Padikkal probably will make a 100.

I think this is how they have been seleting bowlers for years until IPL.  Bumrah probably would yet to make debut but for IPL.

Umesh, bhumrah would have not been selected if not for IPL. There would have been passing refrences by some top batters that bowler-x or bowlers-y they thought were quick.

It is a catch 22 situation. Sometimes these trundlers help you win or reach knock outs which is also critical from national selection perspective. so raw talent purely based on eye testing will never play in Indian system outside T20 premiere leagues. A guy like Varun C who was primarily an architect purely came through TNPL where teams are not scared of introducing raw potential as it is only 4 overs. Consequences are less. They wantedly go after shock elements in T20 to catch opposition off guard. It is not the sam ein a long format game.

Even Ashwin never had any outstanding Ranji season or anything. He had one half decent season. He would not have played either.

Duleep Trrophy (DT) and Irani trophy(IT) selection are based on the who performed or played the ranji  trophy (RT) that season. They can not just play new player who did not perform or play in ranji that season. That was the issues last season when Ind selectors selected the teams and zonal selectors were not taking any of it.

 

Bowler like Deepesh, Tom, Pranav, Nagraj were not selected in ranji and now they are not selected for DT. for this rule to apply there has to be this rule in ranji 1st.

North zone has gone off the script by the look of it. It si only South Zone that strictly follows the old criteria. As far as Ranjhi goes i think they pick players from 5th division cricket i think. Deepesh and AMbrish will eventually play for TN.
