suraj Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Cities/WB_Housewife_killed_for_being_dark/articleshow/3270174.cms Well actually the problem exists all over India BURDWAN: A housewife was allegedly killed by her husband and in-laws for being dark complexion in West Bengal's Burdwan district, police sources said on Wednesday. According to police Sabari Ghosh (20) of Sugarkona village was rushed to Kalna Hospital late last night with serious head injuries by her husband and in-laws where she was declared dead. Sabari's father Nabakumar Ghosh alleged that around 2 am he received a phone call from Sabari's in-law telling him to rush to hospital as she was injured after falling from her bed. In hospital he saw that Sabari's body had serious signs of head injury. Nabakumar than lodged a FIR with the police alleging that Sabari's husband and in-laws had killed her. He said that "Sabari had complained to him that she was tortured by her husband and in-laws since her marriage two-years ago for her dark complexion." The police has arrested the husband, brother-in-law and mother-in-law of Sabari on the basis of the FIR. Sabari has a one-year old child. How shameful for India when we complain of being targeted for the color of our skin outside India in western countries
coffee_rules Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Nomination for the WTF article of the day! They should make an example of this case, and give these people life imprisonment without parole. Most of Indians are mesmerised by white skin, and they don't how that culture draws some extremes out of some. It had to happen one day.
punjabi_khota Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 I think it is actually about dowry. i mean seriously, they didnt know how she looked before they get married ? or she suddenly got tanned ?
Ram Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Why cant these women just walk out of these abusive marriages? Why endure such treatment and still continue to live in their in-laws' place? I know thats its a big social stigma in India to be separated from your husband, but what could be more serious than being treated in such a shabby way?
beetle Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 If true...this is really shameful! >>>>He said that "Sabari had complained to him that she was tortured by her husband and in-laws since her marriage two-years ago for her dark complexion." What did the father do about this? He knew this for the last 2 years but didn't care enough to help her then? How come these bloody parents don't care enough for their own flesh and blood to interfere till she dies. Fact of the matter is that such parents don't care much for this daughter who is more like a burden and is forgotten once she is married off. How many of us will stand by and watch while our daughters are abused? And if we do that, are we any less guilty? Sick bastards all of them!
beetle Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 >>>Why cant these women just walk out of these abusive marriages? Why endure such treatment and still continue to live in their in-laws' place? Because their parents don't care enough to make them independent(doosre ghar jaegee.....unka kya fayda?)...and don't provide any support when they are abused after marriage.Seperation is a very convenient taboo for such parents who would rather cry once she is dead .

What kind of stupid parents are these, who prefer to stand in the sidelines and watch their daughter being abused, mentally and physically, rather than having the courage to ask her to come back? I am pretty sure in many of these cases, the daughter-in-law would have wanted to return to her home. But unfortunately, either her parents wouldnt want her to do that or she isnt independent enough to eek out a living on her own.
beetle Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 No one likes being burnt alive as happens in most dowry cases. The parents are as much to blame in such cases. Unfortunately they are rarely blamed. Infact I hold them more responsible because she is their child . If they don't make her independent and capable of defending herself.....then it is their duty to do so for the rest of their lives.
Guest dada_rocks Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 There are some seriously sick people around.... I know one of these mofo sample .. ba$tard is rotting in jail serves him right.... How can anyone bring oneself to burn anyone alive is beyond me..
