Mr. Wicket Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Right now watching Somerset play Durham in the Friends Provident Trophy. In theory, should have been a good contest here. Durham have an all star side by county standards with Steve Harmison, Class Act Collingwood, Liam Plunkett, Shiv Chanderpaul, up and comer Graham Onions, Phil Mustard, Michael DiVenuto and Dale Benkenstein - lots of int'l experience there. But they're right now getting shredded to bits. The men dishing it out? One who restarted his career in 2001 beating up English bowlers, and decided he didn't want to stop even after retirement from international cricket. Justin Langer's footwork and timing has been as precise this innings as it's ever been in his career. He still cuts viciously, still is happy to charge spinners and loft them and still hits the ball bloody hard - especially for a guy who people pigeonholed as a grafter early in his career. Marcus Trescothick meanwhile has belted a hundred in 70-some balls. What on paper looks like a pretty decent attack with Harmison, Plunkett and Onions has been flogged. Emphatic drives, powerful lofts and he's looking very solid and hungry for runs. England might do well to look in his direction, especially seeing as their captain can't buy a run and they need another batsman.
Dravid Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 i hope trescothick plays for eng again.. awesome batsman
Sachinism Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 damn missed out on this tresco is a legend it should be a good chase, so i'll watch that
DadaRocks Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Trescothick has retired from international cricket
The Outsider Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Salil, a county attack - these days - is a county attack is a county attack. It's timers like you realized :-Dit
Ram Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Langer is simply awesome. His career started when most other men would have contemplated retirement.
fineleg Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Langer is an awesome example of hard work and dedication and discipline. India should hire Justin Langer to coach at some level U-19 or something like that. Langer may be able to help with mental conditioning of our players (U-19 or whatever)
Holysmoke Posted July 24, 2008 Posted July 24, 2008 Yeah, and he's gonna sing.. "Aapne pukaara... to hum chale aaye"
