fineleg Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Chandan wants to maintain a standard in the site so that we are not littered with non-english posts and that is a good idea. It needs to be applied and posters reminded no matter what non-english language these posts are though. Then it is fair and square. Anyways' date=' you can always PM if there needs to be 1-1 chatter.[/quote'] Ah, ok, seems like yoda has gotten a behind the scenes explanation and is convinced. Fair enough that we dont "litter" the sites with vernacular. If thats the case for starters dont "litter" with Hindi as well. Keep it "only English" Look, for all practical purposes, most posts out here on cricket are in English. There is no littering going on, save for some rare use of vernacular. If that has to be relegated to chit-chat forum, then make the cricket forum 100% English. Then point out every Hindi post as an aberration too? Seems childish. Just leave it as is as long as it is not overdone. I dont think anything was overdone. The site is fine (and in mostly English) as it is. There does not seem to be a genuine need for language policing since it is rare usages of non-English and even if it is used, it is mostly Hindi, and even rarer for other vernacular.
fineleg Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 BTW - as mentioned before, Badri cannot be called "the real deal". Badri needs to play 2-3 ODI series, before he can even be considered as "ok deal"...it takes players a couple of years to see if they are "real deal". Rahul Dravid, Kumble, Tendulkar, Sehwag et.al. have established themselves over YEARS and YEARS of cricket, not with 2 series! So, dsr is jumping the gun here.
CSK Fan Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 I dont know why there should be a problem with Hindi, its our national language, isnt it?
fineleg Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 I dont know why there should be a problem with Hindi' date=' its our national language, isnt it?[/quote'] There is "no problem"...when one thing gets pointed out, the converse gets pointed out as well. Things are fine as is. There is mostly english in the forum, next order there is Hindi posts, and even rarer there are vernacular posts. Leave it as is and there is no issue. If certain standard has to be "strictly enforced", then it has to be 100% English...I dont think it needs to be enforced, just let things continue - there is no harm done anyway and no need to focus and target on specific language(s). No need to play spoilsport on one vs the other. PS: I specifically did not allude to ur "national language" thingy - that is a separate topic, separate debate...long one, and we can start one in chit-chat later.
satishg Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 DSR ppl here are hijacking ur thread..come out and support ur thread :D so on the op Badri still has a long way to go before we even start talking abt him on such high terms..he is a gud talent but v have seen many a talent being wasted in the past..so lets hope thats not the case with Badri
punjabi_khota Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Hahaha....I see my prediction has come true.

If MSD can place confidence in S.B. then he can have a decent chance of success.
satishg Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 support from Captain is important. If MSD can place confidence in S.B. then he can have a decent chance of success. and that finey is the million $IPL$ question :D
King Tendulkar Posted August 21, 2008 Author Posted August 21, 2008 Badrinath is a cert for tests. He is more suited to longer forms of game. If he performs well in masala odis then it shows his real ability to do this. His technique etc means he is sooooooooooooooooo suited for tests
King Tendulkar Posted August 21, 2008 Author Posted August 21, 2008 I did not see Badri play in the last match , but from what I saw in IPL , this guy has re-tooled his game and is able to accelerate at a brisk pace depending upon the situation . Dsr you may want to consider this , remember Venugopal Rao who used to be Chappell favorite and now he has started playing some blinders in IPL . I never expected him to reinvent himself for the shorter version of the game after his dismal showing in ODI. We always thought that he was a test material. I think Badri has bright future in both test and ODI simply because he has shown in the intent when playing IPL. Although I have a feeling that he does not have the whole hearted backing of Dhoni... just an hunch from the way his batting position was shafted by Dhoni during the IPL. Totally agree. I also was suprised with Roa and his IPL performances. He is another who could be a test match player still. I would back Roa to deliver in tests at this moment in time over the young bunch like Raina, Sharma, Kohli and Uthappa etc
Ram Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 The last time Dsr hyped up a cricketer like this, he got dropped after two games. Wonder what will be the outcome this time.
yoda Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 I dont know why there should be a problem with Hindi' date=' its our national language, isnt it?[/quote'] it isn't.

Chaos Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 LOL The first bad run for a guy (who is only 21 btw) who was in sublime form up until around April ... sudenly he is a joke of a player. I suppose Ishant is a joke of a bowler too. I mean, he didnt get many wickets in the test series, or the Asia cup ... lets drop him, he's a joke. Raina struggled a bit recently ... lets drop him, he's a joke. Tiwary struggled in the 1 game he was given ... he's a joke and should never be picked. LOL ... Yea "lets groom youngsters" my foot ... We're gonna call them jokes at the first sign of trouble ... LOL. rofl sublime? sublime is when u pour 100's of runs, in rohits case, sublime means, 20-30's and dropping catches
bharat297 Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 rofl sublime? sublime is when u pour 100's of runs' date=' in rohits case, sublime means, 20-30's and dropping catches[/quote'] Sublime in terms of the way he scored his runs , his comfort level at the crease ... Look at the CB series (particularly the first final) and the IPL ... just looked so comfortable and relaxed at the crease, and was scoring freely, playing all the shots. Also look at the situations he scored his runs in ... he dug India out of trouble a few times. As for dropping catches. I remember him dropping Ponting in the Sydney ODI (the 10th ODI), which wasnt an easy chance (he dived to his right) ... Other than that, he is one of our best fielders, along with Badri and Raina. In my opinion he is struggling from a lack of confidence. Maybe domestic cricket is the answer, but ... mark my words ... he will be our best batsman within 5 years.
chanakya Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 I dont know why there should be a problem with Hindi' date=' its our national language, isnt it?[/quote'] nope it isn't. India does not have a national language. Though most people of some of the states in the South and the East are unable to speak in Hindi.
Desi Cartman Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 For north VS South Im from delhi and I am supporting Badri .. I dont like the idea of playing Kholi (:cantstop:) PS: Im from delhi but I live in Mel ..very south :hysterical:
Ram Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 I am shocked to see how easy it is, to completely derail a thread. All I did was to post some useless crap about 'north vs south' in one post and since then, 80% of the posts have been on those lines, far removed from the OP.
